Is it usual for a mito patient to go through early menopause? For my 40th birthday, my husband asked me what I wanted and I said a vasectomy! So he went and got the procedure done. I am now 41 and I have not had a period in a year! My husband thinks this is a cruel joke of course!!! I am scheduled for my annual GYN appt. next month. Fortunately, due to insurance reasons, my GYN doc does not do OB anymore and concentrates on problem issues and perimenopause as well as menopause. I went on HRT briefly, then the scare came out about it and I was in the middle of my " migraine period. " The pharmacist who compounds my sons's cocktail is setting up a separate business for holistic? HRT with no drugs. You meet with a RN and she sets you up with another cocktail of vitamins, herbs etc. I understand this is a new way of dealing with this and I might check into it further after speaking with my GYN. None of the females in my family had early menopause but my Mother and Sister both had hysterectomies in their 40s. I am wondering IF I jumped into an early menopause that that would also contribute to my symptoms? Anyone have thoughts on this? I haven't since (many years back I stopped) been able to lose more than 20 lbs., and I'm about 10 lbs. up from that. Sometimes I wonder if the hormones caused my mito, but I'm thinking more towards the lots of Seldane and Emycin I took as a young adult (prescription of course, before Seldane was pulled).
