Hi all,

We just got Skylar's Starband 3 days ago (Tues). We were told to

remove the band every 3-4 hrs for the first 2 days and do a skin

check for red marks. And that if there were any, to wait as long as

it took for them to disappear then put the band back on. We were

also told to let her sleep all night with the band on without doing

any 3-4 hour checks and to call the clinician on THURSDAY to let her

know if we saw any red marks lasting longer than 1 hour. After we

got home, I pulled out the information sheet we were given also, and

read it. It stated this:

Skin checks should be done every 3-4 hours during the first two days

of wear. Remove the band at 3-4 hour intervals. If there are any

dark red areas, the band should be left off until the redness has

faded. If the redness fades in one hour's time, the band should be

placed back on. For redness lasting longer than one hour, the band

should be left off, and the clinic notified. The clinic will need to

know how long it takes for the redness to fade.

This was confusing to me.

When we did the 3-4 hour skin checks we found red marks that did not

disappear for over 3 hours. We put the band back on after the red

marks disappeared (as we were told by the clinician), even though

the red marks lasted longer than an hour. We didn't let her sleep

thru the night with it on however, because we knew the red marks

were lasting longer than 1 hour. And from what the information sheet

said we weren't suppost to put it back on her head anyway.

We did this for the first two days (not letting her wear it during

sleep thru the night), and the red marks continued to last over

three hours. When I called the clinician today (Thurs) I was told to

bring Skylar in either today or tomorrow so they can adjust the

band. I told her that I wasn't going to put the band back on until

after the adjustment tomorrow, and that I wasn't letting her sleep

with it on thru the night because the red marks were lasting longer

than 1 hour. She basically didn't make much sense when she replied

by saying, " I need you to remove the band one hour before you come

for the adjustment at 10:30 in the morning, so I can see how red the

marks are. If the red marks are lasting longer than 1 hour, then

leave it off. " I tell you, she makes no sense to me. I repeated that

the red marks ARE lasting longer than 1 hour (over THREE hours) and

she basically said the same thing again. Is it just me, or does it

seem to anyone else like she is somewhat confused? When we took

Skylar in for the casting, she told us she had been doing this for 8

years. So I just don't get it.

I'm not going to put the band back on Skylar until 5:30 tomorrow

morning (oh, the joy of waking her up that early to put the band

back on. LOL). That will give us 4 hours of wear time and 1 hour

with it off before we see the clinician for the adjustment. Then

she'll see the red marks.

Has anyone else had this kind of experience in the beginning?

Should I put the band back on her today?

Confused,

Tammy
