Dear Beth,

So good to see you posting again. I have gotten much better results

since I switched last year to Tishcon. One of the first mito " things "

to hit me were painful tongue and inner cheek lesions--since the

mid-80's. (I've never smoked.) Have had three biopsies for

same--thankfully, always cancer-free. The oral surgeon told me he had

never seen this but once before, in 25 years.

Well, since I switched to Tishcon, the condition is no longer painful,

and is almost invisible.

I do feel, however, that I will probably have to increase the dose

because I am getting a " killer, " crippling fatigue. Somedays, I can just

about nothing. I see my docs in New York City this week.

Take care, and don't go away so long.

Sincerely,

Beth... It's really great to hear from you today. It has been a very long time

and you've been missed.

I'm curious about which type of CoQ most of you have purchased from Epic. The

only one of theirs I could try had vitamin E in it and there was way too much of

it in there for me to take 1000 mg a day.

Tishon is developing (but it is not out yet as it is still in trials) a 500 mg

chewable that can be cut in quarters. It does not have any vitamin E in it. I

wonder if this would be my answer. Can you imagine.. 2 pills a day?

Alice,

I'm glad you mentioned the vitamin E in Tischon's CoQ10. I had

decided to take this brand instead of the vitaline (which the doctor

recommended) - but I overlooked the fact that I'm getting far more

vitamin E than necessary (and more than is probably considered safe

to take).

I take almost 1000 mg. of Q-gel a day with the vitamin E. I was concerned

about this and had a blood draw to check the level. It was high, but when I

talked with Dr. Cohen and showed him my test results, he said it looked

perfect for someone supplementing with vitamin E.

Not everyone is the same, so you might react differently. Tishcon now has a

vegetarian Q-gel which I believe has little or no vitamin E in it. I can't

put my hands on the information right now, but the Epic4health website

should have this info.

Maggie,

The chewables don't have the vitamin E in them so they should be fine. Tishon

makes an excellent product and it is highly recommended by some of the Mito

specialists. They have several different choices.

Thanks Alice,

I just ordered the chewable w/o the vitamin E.

I was wondering... if my doctor prescribed 600 mg per day of CoQ10

(Vitaline) -- does that equate to the same amount of the Tischon

brand? Since Tischon says their brand is more absorbable - and you

don't need to take as much as some of the others, I wasn't sure if I

should still be taking the same dosage. Do you adjust your dosage

depending on the brand?

Laurie,

Wouldn't that be about 900 IU a day of vitamin E (3000 times the

recommended dosage?) If Dr. Cohen has tested you and is comfortable

with that, then I guess I wouldn't worry. After reading about the

toxicity of too much vitamin E - my dosage concerned me. Also, I

believe I'm getting headaches from that level.

Neither one of my neurologists were concerned. From what I know, taking that

much without the CoQ10 would be a problem. Those with liver and kidney

problems would probably need to be more cautious.

I found that when I switched to the Tishcon Q-gel, at the same level as I

had been taking, that I began to really see the benefits of the CoQ10. This

is what I did, but you might want to back off on the amount (maybe half) and

see how you feel. You can then increase it gradually to the level you feel

the best. There is no sense taking more than you are comfortable with. Some

research done with Parkinson's disease indicated that change was not seen

until levels were up around 1200 mg. regular CoQ10. This indicated that the

suggestion for lower levels might not help much at all. I think it really

depends on how we matabolize what we take.
