Guest guest
Hello Mitoldies, I used to be on this list but had to stop due to limited upright time. However I have a coQ10 question for those taking CoQ10. I've been taking the 200 mg tablets and chewing them for three years, 500 mgs/day. They usually don't taste bad at all and I eat them with a cracker. I ordered a huge bottle of 500 this fall though and they tasted like bugs or like they'd gone rancid. The company replaced them with a bottle that tasted fine. I just had to reorder and once again they taste bad and I'll have to ask again for a replacement bottle. This is really a nuisance since the provider I purchase them from has to go through the paperwork of replacment requests. Also I wonder why they are going bad. Are vitaline products still one of the quality Coq10 supplements that are recommended? I can't swallow pills well so that capsules don't work. What provider for CoQ10 are the physicians recommending these days? best wishes and hope all of you are doing okay and hanging in there, Beth
Guest guest
Beth, Some of us use the Tishcon Q-Gel that has received stage one orphan drug status for mitochondrial disease. Someone in the last few days was good enough to mention that they now have a chewable Q-Gel. Here is the link if you would like to check it out. If you decide to order, let you know you have mito and they will give you a bit of a discount too. http://epic4health.com/ch10chco.html They come in 30 mg and 100 mg chewables. I don't know of anybody that uses Vitaline brand, but that doesn't mean someone won't speak up that does. Were the two bad bottles out of the same lot? They also make a liquid. I hope this helps in some small way. es wrote: >Hello Mitoldies, >I used to be on this list but had to stop due to limited upright time. >However I have a coQ10 question for those taking CoQ10. > >I've been taking the 200 mg tablets and chewing them for three years, >500 mgs/day. Guest guest
Hi Beth, I remember you! Complex II deficiency, right? I'll pass on what I've heard about Vitaline from Dr. Vladutiu. She recently mentioned to me that Dr. Haas at UCSD had used Vitaline Q10 for trials with his Parkinson's patients and been satisfied with it. However, she said that he does prefer the Tishcon Q-10 and recommends that brand for his mito patients. Not sure why he used Vitaline for the Parkinson trials, but apparently he did feel it was reliable enough to use in a scientific study. That's all I know. Personally, I would be wary if you've received 2 bad bottles. But that's just me. Take care, Barbara PS For sure, can identify with the limited upright time. I have come to refer to the prone position as ceiling time. A friend has recently promised to find some posters to put on my ceiling for entertainment. Knowing her, she probably will. :-) > > >Hello Mitoldies, > >I used to be on this list but had to stop due to limited upright time. > >However I have a coQ10 question for those taking CoQ10. > > > >I've been taking the 200 mg tablets and chewing them for three years, > >500 mgs/day. Guest guest
I am glad to see ppl talking about vitaline. My understanding of vitaline is that it has been specially formulated and proven to cross the " blood-brain " barrier. (That is the company " s claim anyway) What this means is that the body has a mechanism by which many things in the blood are kept from reaching the brain, and vitaline crosses this barrier. This is adaptive when toxins and other bad things are kept from reaching the brain. Of course, for definite problems which stem in the brain, like Parkingsons, if the medication/supplement is going to help, it must get there. That is why at least some studies for neurologic prolems like Parkinsons use vitaline, and the company makes a big deal out of it. I do not know the validity of that claim, nor the importance for mito people, to have Q10 reach the brain. I do not know if the formulation of QGel also reaches the brain. I do know that there are mitochondria in the brain, and I might guess that some of our memory/cognitive function problems might be helped by Q10. Many guesses still. I have only recently heard of and started using QGel instead of another brand. It is my intention to experiment with vialine some time in the future also. Still trying to gather information on this subject. I would be very happy to have people comment on this question, and grateful for further information on vitaline vs QGel. Regards, Sunny > Hi Beth, I remember you! Complex II deficiency, right? I'll pass on > what I've heard about Vitaline from Dr. Vladutiu. Guest guest
Sunny Q-gel does reach the brain. It gets into the blood stream to go there better than others, because it is water soluable instead of oil soluable. I sure hopes you find it helpful to you. It made a big difference when I switched to the Q-gel. laurie > From: z39z@... > Reply-To: > Date: Sun, 4 Apr 2004 12:48:23 -0400 > To: > Subject: Re: Vitaline CoQ10/bad taste/rancid pills??? > > I am glad to see ppl talking about vitaline. Guest guest
Hi Beth, I just wanted to say that I have taken the Vitaline Coq10 for more than a year & have not had any problems with it. I've been taken the 300mg chewables (60 count bottle)... I have had really good success with it now that I take 1200mg a day. I've not had this rancid taste you mentioned, I'm glad to hear the company is at least replacing it, but I do find it a bit troubling you've had the same thing happen twice. Oddly, today I started taking a pharmaceutical grade Cocktail, I'm not sure what kind of Q10 is in there & I'm a bit worried about it, I hope that it is as good as the vitaline.... I do know this pharmaceutical mixture (liquid) tastes PUTRID.... Chris >the paperwork of replacment requests. > > Also I wonder why they are going bad.
