She was 10 Pounds 14 Ounces 24 1/4 inches and her head was 40cm I can't belive how big she is. She was perfect in every way shape and form. They gave her her HIb shot and I wanted to hold and nurse her while she was getting it so hopefully it wouldn't be to upsetting for her. Bt they said it was a chocking hazard to nurse her while she is getting the shot. So I said Ok well I will just hold her Thy still said No. Has anyone ever experenced this am I just being crazy?? I want to hold my sweet baby and try to comfort her I see nothing wrong with this and don't see how it could cause harm. Do you think next time I shouldn't give in?? I jus went ahead and got the shot with her laying on the table like THEY wanted but I feel like I lost round 1 My Dr wasn't there I was seeing the NP I don't have any idea what my Dr. would have said. But anyway she is growing good that's for sure she sleeps great and never crys. And of course is the most beautiful girl in the world. Next time I would just insist on holding her. If they won't " let " you, ask why and talk to the doctor if you have to. If you don't get satisfaction, get a new doctor. This is from the HIB package insert; INDICATIONS AND USAGE: PedvaxHIB PedvaxHIB is indicated for routine immunization against invasive disease caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b in infants and children 2 to 71 months of age. PedvaxHIB will not protect against disease caused by Haemophilus influenzae other than type b or against other microorganisms that cause invasive disease such as meningitis or sepsis. Revaccination Infants completing the primary two-dose regimen before 12 months of age should receive a booster dose (see DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION). I guess I should have, but I just accepted the way they did it. HE gets more shots tomorrow so maybe I should ask and see what they say. (hard for me to keep up with who's who, Mommy brain, you know) I was told by 2 friends from church who had babies with heart problems that 'heart babies' don't gain well as their bodies work harder, therefore use more calories, just to survive. My Lucas was 8lb 15oz at birth, was 8lb 2 oz at 2 weeks, 8lb 5 oz at 4 weeks...now our next check is his regular 2 month appointment...as long as he is gaining and reaching milestones (Lucas is smiling, quite alert and active) they are happy. He has clearly gained some weight in the last few weeks, we have 2 more till his next appointment, I'm expecting them to be satisfied with his growth. It's actually kind of nice to have him staying small since he is otherwise healthy. These 2 friends had their babies put on feeding tubes at night, then they nursed during the day, they both had more severe problems than Lucas has. That's the standard practice where we have lived in Ontario and Alberta. We always hold them on our lap with one of their arms behind us and we hold their leg still by the knee for the nurse. Lucas is my 5th. they always did his shots last, then I immediately could pick him up, I guess I kind of figured I'd rather have him associate me with the comforting and not the pain. If you want to hold him then hold him, don't let them give vaccinations if they won't let you hold him. You have the right to refuse any care given. There is absolutely no choking hazard or any other hazard except inconvenience to the medical staff and it really isn't that big of an inconvenience to them. I have to cover my ears when he is crying it is sooooooooooo hard on me... This is SUPPOSE to be my DH part of the duties not mine...but he had to go out of town - so I got stuck doing it this time around. Are you sure it wasn't the Hep B shot that he recieved. We usually get shots at the Health Department and there they make you hold them so you can keep their arms out of the way and their legs still at the same time. Then all the nurse has to worry about is getting the needle in. When one of the girls got shots at the doctor's office before I remember they made me lay her on the table. The nurse dropped the needle and had a heck of time gettting it in and trying to restrain her at the same time. I don't know about nursing through shots-I wouldn't want the baby to associate nursing with pain like that. I usually put them to the breast immediately afterward. That is the only vax I'm letting them give her and only because they started it in the hospital while I wasn't paying attention(they took her away from me twice and wouldn't let me in the nursery with her). I'm not letting them give her any other vaxes, and her pedi is NOT happy about it(but smart enough not to say anything, I could just tell), and she told me that I knew I'd have to have her vaxed when she went to Kindergarten, and I was like "yeah" which is okay, cause I'm home schooling, so she won't be going to public school. And by the time she's old enough to decide for herself that she wants to go to public school, she will be plenty old enough to handle the vaccines, I think. Right? Oh, one question, her pedi says she wants me to start her on solids by the next visit(4 mos) which I've already told her I will not do, but can anyone give me a link to the AAP thing and the WHO thing that says six months? Also(okay, I guess two questions), do I really have to start solids at six months, or if she's getting enough with just the breast still can I wait? Cause I can see us being on the fast track to weaning if I start her on solids at 6 months and I really want to breastfeed for at least a year(preferably more). Her pedi told me(this is a direct quote), "after 6 months breastmilk does not provide all the daily requirements, she needs to be eating solid food for some meals." And since she is my first to be breastfed, I'm not sure if that's right or not, but I think I heard someone on this list say they exclusively breastfed for nine months(it might have been one of my other lists, I am on quite a few).... Babies can indeed get all they need from breastmilk in the first year and beyond but 6-9 month is usually a good time to teach them the culture skills of learning to eat. Oh, one question, her pedi says she wants me to start her on solids by the next visit(4 mos) which I've already told her I will not do, but can anyone give me a link to the AAP thing and the WHO thing that says six months? Also(okay, I guess two questions), do I really have to start solids at six months, or if she's getting enough with just the breast still can I wait? Cause I can see us being on the fast track to weaning if I start her on solids at 6 months and I really want to breastfeed for at least a year(preferably more). Her pedi told me(this is a direct quote), " after 6 months breastmilk does not provide all the daily requirements, she needs to be eating solid food for some meals. " And since she is my first to be breastfed, I'm not sure if that's right or not, but I think I heard someone on this list say they exclusively breastfed for nine months(it might have been one of my other lists, I am on quite a few).... Guest guest Posted September 13, 2000 Report Share Posted September 13, 2000 Krista Boy I would be upset if they had given my child the Hep B without my knowledge - I though you had to sign a concent form for any vaccination shot. Otherwise if your child ends up with seisures or autism or something you could sue the hospital. Anyways - Hep B is one of them that I am NOT giving my baby after reading about it since your child can really only get it from blood to blood contact so like sexual intercourse or drug use are the two common ways of contracting it - well my little one isn't going to be in a situation like that - especially since he isn't even going to daycare... I am getting some of the vacc BUT only because we are going to take a cruise and they require it since we will be traveling into another country on the trip. But my main reason for writing it that in our state and I think others too...there is a consent form you can sign that stating for your own religious beliefs you chose not to have the vaccines and you just give that form to the school and your child can still go to school unvaccinated. My chiropractors kids are 12 and 14 and haven't been vacc and still attend school. Guest guest Posted September 13, 2000 Report Share Posted September 13, 2000 Yes Ethan has VSD. He is nursing much better now. When we left the hospital it was a struggle to get 1/2 ounce down him. Now 2 ounces isn't enough :-) But he isn't gaining well - and yes, it is because of the calories he's burning just to have his heart beat and lungs work. His breathing is getting worse and they are bumping up the surgery. The had been thinking 3-4 months, but they are going to do it next month, before he is even 2 months old. I can't wait to see that scale fly when he is through with the surgery! They used to say 4-6 months and in 1997 went to a firm 6 months of exclusive, up to a year and thereafter as long as mutually desirable.
