My anemia is gone, but the tiredness remains Hi nne Just to let you know that I'm tired most of the time too- I think in my case it's due to lack of sleep as I naturally sleep on my stomach which is not very comfortable at the moment as I have an enormous fibroid and I usually get really bad pains at night, so it takes me ages to get to sleep, or else I wake up during the night with pains. Do you have trouble sleeping too? Sue
Guest guest
You're going to have to eat foods that are high in iron (green leafy vegetables like spinach). Some people take iron pills. I used to do that when I was a teenager b/I was anemic long before I was diagnosed w/fibroids. If you are heavy bleeding its going to be a battle to get your blood count up. I'm on depro so I don't have periods, but if I wasn't on depro I'm afraid to see what the result would be. Good luck! Guest guest
Hello Dear, Thank you for all informations you give me to taking care of my anemia first before operation. Effectively I'm taking Ferrous Sulfate since two month by my Doc, and that did not make my blood count back. I don't know what to do. About food, could you please tell me certains variete of foo iron rich, without spinach ? kukalaka wrote: Hi, For anemia, take Slow FE iron (it's a slow release iron pill) and vitamin C to help it absorb. Eat iron rich foods but if your anemia is bad, you'll need the Slow FE iron, food alone won't work. Your doc can check for anemia with a simple blood test. It can take up to a year to get your counts all back up to normal but you'll feel better much sooner than this. Ku
Guest guest
Hi, Diet alone won't help bring your iron count up once it gets so low. Are you taking a slow absorbing iron (Slow FE)? Iron in a mutivitamin won't get your count up well either. Once your count gets really low, you just need more than that. You can have a iron infusion to bring your counts up if they are really low. This has to be done by a doctor. You will need your counts up before any kind of surgery. If you bleed heavy, this makes it even harder. It takes time. Anemia can kill, it's nothing to ignore. So keep taking the slow absorbing iron (don't lay down for 1/2 hour after) and take it with some vitamin C. It may take you a year or longer to get all your iron stores replinshed. You will feel better long before this. Good Sources of Iron Animal Sources: 3-oz red meat (hamburger or steak) provides 3-7 mg iron 3-oz chicken, fish or pork provides 1-3 mg iron Other Sources: (each 1-3 mg iron/serving) Ready-to-eat breakfast cereals, 1 cup Canned baked beans or kidney beans, ½ cup Cooked spinach, ½ cup Cooked enriched pasta, 1 cup Whole wheat bread, 2 slices Frozen cooked peas, ½ cup Enriched rice, 1 cup What will help your body to use the iron in foods you eat? Eating foods rich in vitamin C (oranges, grapefruits, tomatoes, broccoli, strawberries) with an iron-rich food. Cooking food in a cast-iron skillet or pot. What will make it harder for your body to use iron in foods you eat? Too much caffeine (coffee, tea, coffee drinks, or caffeinated soda) with a meal. Too much fiber. Taking calcium tablets with meals. (If you take a calcium tablet, don’t take it with meals). nne Emilienne Kenfack wrote: Hello Dear, Thank you for all informations you give me to taking care of my anemia first before operation.
