Guest guest
Thanks for reassuring me I'm not crazy! I know it's on the top of my uterus, and it's 7 cm, or just under that. My uterus is a little over 12 cm right now. I am only 19 and I do want kids eventually. I also have PCOS, which can cause problems with fertility. So I don't want anything there that is gonna make it harder when I do want kids. I have not had a saline or MRI...Just a regular abdominal Ultrasound. I had it the 2nd week in dec. I am on birth control now because of my PCOS, but when I did have a period before it was sometimes heavy and clotty. One other question... Is an RE the only person who can do a myomectomy or something like that? Or could my gyn do it? Thanks for everything! I really need support right now...I am like the first person to have them in my family...My mom doesn't have any female organs anymore, my sister is pregnant, and they haven't found anything on her. and my grandma doesn't have any female organs either. Anyways...I'll quit rambling. Thanks for being supportive. God bless, a > Hi, > > You're NOT crazy! > > Yes, this fibroid is going to grow. Hormones make it grow. Whether it affects your ability to have kids depends on location and size. Go see a RE (Reproductive Endocrinologist). They can answer your fertility questions and tell you if you might want to remove it. You don't want it getting out of hand. > > Are you having heavy bleeding? Do you know it's location? Guest guest
Some gynecologists do myomectomies. My ob/gyn did mine. Ideally, you should choose a gynecologist who does myomectomies regularly and has a low rate of complications, such as conversions to hysterectomies. This message from the archives has a great list of questions you can ask a doctor that you're considering: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/uterinefibroids/message/43544 Cheryl At 09:20 PM 1/18/2004 +0000, you wrote: >One other question... Guest guest
Hi, Lots of us have felt the same way you are now. Learning more seems to be calming. Talking to this group is calming. You're talking to people who are or have been where you are. Some fibroids can be easier to remove than others. Go to www.myomectomy.net, it's a good source of information for you. Whether your GYN can do a myo depends on his\her skills. No GYN in my city could do one. I went to another state. I also saw a RE. They are a OB\GYN with special training. They usually have the ability to do myos, resections, and just fine surgery like reparing fallopian tubes. You want a doc that does LOTS of myos. A RE could deal with all your fertility questions. This is what they do. They do egg transplants, invitro and other fertility procedures besides delivering babies and surgery. You might just want the best doc you can find with these added skills. Being able to have a family is very important to you, get the best doc. They think that fibroids come from a defective gene from your father. Seems to be my case. They are in the women born to the males on Dad's side of the family. So you would need to look to your sisters, female cousins who's fathers are your Dad's brothers. Your sister may not have them YET. They usually hit in the 40s. Your cousins may not be old enough yet. Now your Mothers side can have them but they would be getting them from a different source than you. They are more common than you may realise. Research may show something different than this later. They do hysts in great numbers especially in certain areas like the south. This doesn't have to be your fate. More and more options will be coming available to you. Before you decide anything, you need better scans. Ask for them. A saline sono and for the best picture, a MRI. Your bleeding (with clots) can be fibroid related. It means that your fibroid could be distorting the shape of your uterus causing the abnormal bleeding. This can get very bad. Have them check you for anemia just to be safe. You don't need anymore problems and they can treat this. So ask about your Doc's skills, you can ask about UAE if you want to explore this, ask for better detailed scans and ask to be checked for anemia. If your doc's myo skills are lacking, look for a RE. You know, make a plan, list questions you want answered. Don't let anyone blow you off. It's your body. Tell them hyst is NOT a option for you. Share your test results here if you have questions and ask here. Lots of sharp tacks in this box! You will get support and understanding here. I'm glad you found this group. My dads sister had a hysterectomy but my mom can't recall if it was for fibroids but more than likely it was. Now the only one left is my baby sister and she has ten years to wait to see if she will get them. So how do you think it will affect my daughter? Could she be in line to get fibroids too. With two aunts and her mother with them, can she escape these monsters in the future?
