Guest guest
Hey everybody! I was just sitting here thinking, and reading some different things on Fibroids. I was thinking... If my fibroid has grown to 7 cm and I'm only 19..Will this thing continue to grow? I don't know what made it grow,or when it began growing... I think it's causing pressure in my bottom at times, and sometimes pain. I wonder if I should ask my doctor about my fears of this thing growing or not!?!? Am I being obsessive reading and researching and thinking about this? I just dont' want this thing to get too big and not be able to have kids, or something later. If anybody could please Tell me I'm NOT crazy!! lol or if anybody has an response to why I'm feeling like I am becoming obsessed with this whole issue.. I would greatly appreciate a response! THanks! a
Guest guest
Hi, You're NOT crazy! Yes, this fibroid is going to grow. Hormones make it grow. Whether it affects your ability to have kids depends on location and size. Go see a RE (Reproductive Endocrinologist). They can answer your fertility questions and tell you if you might want to remove it. You don't want it getting out of hand. Are you having heavy bleeding? Do you know it's location? Have you had a saline sono or MRI to give you a better idea of it's size? Read everything! Ask questions here. You are not alone. Ku
Guest guest
It's my understanding that fibroids that occur at a younger age are more likely to grow and proliferate than fibroids that occur to women who are in their 30s and 40s. However, it is possible that your fibroid may stay the same size for a while. You should definitely speak to your doctor about your fears about the fibroid's chances for growing. Your doctor can help you decide whether to take a " watch and wait " approach or go ahead and have the fibroid removed. My fibroid was diagnosed when I was in my mid-30s, and it stayed the same size (6 cm) for 2 years. I planned to take a " watch and wait " approach with it as long as it wasn't causing any problems. When I got pregnant, the increased estrogen from the pregnancy caused the fibroid to double in size. It still wasn't causing major problems, but I decided to have a myomectomy because I wanted to have a second child, and the fibroid might have caused problems if it got even bigger during the second pregnancy. Many women have had successful pregnancies despite their fibroids, so taking a " watch and wait " approach might be sufficient for now (your doctor can help you decide). Personally, I was glad that I attempted my first pregnancy before having my fibroid removed, as there is always a chance that a myomectomy will adversely affect fertility. If you decide to take a " watch and wait " approach, just make sure you go back for regular checkups to make sure your fibroid isn't grow too quickly. Guest guest
Hi Kris, When I was first diagnosed I read everything I could possible read and kept thinking just like u are. it's normal. 1st off no one here can tell u that ur fibroid is going to continue to grow. that is up to your body and ur habits and lifestyle. I understand you are going through the " I'm 19!!! what is going on?! " thingy. cuz that's what I was saying except I'm 25. hehehe. your first sonogram was a " baseline " sonogram. u should consult w/ur dr has to how many months you'll have to wait to do another one so they can determine the rate your fibroid is growing. honestly i had no fibroids in May and now i had 3 in August. there was nothing there on previous sonograms. If u can deal w/the pain ur feeling your dr may tell u to just watch and wait. All medications and procedures that are out there are not for everyone. You need to learn how to relax and understand your situation and make decisions that are right for you. Right now I'm steering clear of any removal of my 3 fibroids. I know I can, and many people including my mother can conceive and have healthy children while having fibroids. What I'm telling you is don't get scared into something you know isn't for you. Guest guest
Kris At 19 I would really look into all your options before choosing. You are so young...you want to make sure if you remove them surgically you are taking steps to hopefully prevent regrowth. Check out the healing fibroids naturally yahoo list group as well. That may be a useful resource for you. I don't know if there is a connection between PCOS and fibroids. I have a friend who has PCOS and is now having issues with fibroids. She is searching for information and has not had much success. Although, she is 39. The key is finding a good physician who really understands women's health, understands endrocinology (sp), and can discuss with you the different options. Definitely read all the information everyone is recommended and found on the link page. There is a lot of good information out there.
