Guest guest
Yesterday was such a bummer. I have been trying to give blood before my myo. first time, a week ago, failed. Second time I drank 32oz of water a gatorade and juice before I went in (yesterday) and they were able to get the blood. I am underweight so they took less. Plus I bleed for 2 weeks a month at least and have two weeks off before I bleed again. So anyway, the tech was rude to me and I had no words for her she can't understand my stress here. The nurse who took the blood was great. Toward the end I started loosing conciousness and she was putting ice packs on me telling me to cough, then my tumor started hurting and she put heat packs on. Well I spent the day in bed feeling like I had been hit by a truck. I live alone. The man in my life who promised he would be there took off about 1 1/2 months ago...family is not close by...I was supposed to give blood twice to have enough back up for surgery. But after what happened they said I can't give again. How much blood do we need to give before surgery? I have a sister who can come out here and give if she needs to. The second thing is that surgery is in 18 days. I am nervous and have never felt more alone. I will do this but as the days get closer I seem to be more and more of a wreck. And now I am reading that this can just come back? How often do these things come back? I am 39 years old. I wanted to have kids one day. Does anyone believe it could be possible after all of this? At 39? Sorry if I sound so down...I'm just trying to get through these days. My surgery is on the 21st at Brigham and Womens. Thanks, Deb
Guest guest
Hi Deb Sorry to hear about your experience. I'm surprised they let you give blood so close to your procedure. Because it takes 59 days for your body to restore 1 pint of blood, my Doc doesn't like her patients giving blood that close to surgery. She also is hesitant for her patients with anemia to bank their own blood. You work so hard pre-surgery to build up your iron only to have a tranfusion with anemic blood. I have also been told by many that the chance of needing a transfusin is slim (if you are in the right hands). My Myo is in Feb, my thoughts are with you.
