Guest guest
Hi My Name is Kim McIntyre(Ms) I have a Son who is 22 years old and was diagnosed with NF2 (still to be confirmed) in 2001 , surgery was carried out at Leeds General Infirmary (U.K.) for the removal of a bi-lateral acoustic nuroma (4 cm)July 2001 and in June 2002 for removal of a brain stem tumour. The first operation lasted 10 hours and a hospital recovery period of 15 weeks, due to contraction of MRSA. The second operation took 4 hours and he was out of hospital within a week. His health today : Cornea anaesthesia of the left eye resulting a permanent Tarsorraphy being carried out(and at the moment ulcerated cornea), He is totally deaf in his left ear and suffers from loss of feeling down the left side of his face (thankfully no facial palsy), his vocal cords are partially paralysed and his balance " leaves a lot to be desired " His outlook : The other bi lateral AN to be removed .. when and by what method we don't know yet. Numerous tumours around the body are being given the " wait and see " approach at the moment. We are presently in contact with a doctor in Rome, Italy with reference to his Cornea problem and NGF (nerve growth factor) a doctor in the United States, reference Stereostatic Radio Surgery for the second AN. We live in Leeds,Yorkshire,England. I am employed as a accounts clerk and have another son, , of 18 years old and a big Black Labrador called Bass (12 years old) Hopefully we will be able to learn from your group members, how they cope , hurdles they have overcome (and those they have flattened) Problems that do and will probably relate to our situation, and solutions to those problems. And maybe, when needed, a friendly keyboard to cry on. Hope to hear from you soon Regards Kim
