Guest guest
Hi Mike, If I were you, I'd have tests for ACTH, aldosterone, renin, 24-hr cortisol, testosterone, DHEA, adrenaline (if they test that) and anything else your doc can think of. I don't think the saliva test from ZRT is enough. I think that only measures cortisol and DHEA. I'm going through the same thing. I've tried over and over for two+ years to tolerate Armour and end up in a mess - retain fluid and my BP shoots up. Each time, it is worse. Now, since June, I've been in a constant state of stress and anxiety. My latest bust came in October. I went horribly hyper on 1.25 grains of Armour. I had to not take anything for a few days and then gradually re-introduced T4. When I took only 25 mcg, I felt racy. I finally worked back up to 88 mcg and have been on that dose since Nov 20. Then I developed all sorts of other issues - a period I hadn't expected and a raging UTI. My nerves have been absolutely shot. I'm on an antibiotic for the UTI and was blaming that but I don't think that's it. It finally dawned on me today that my raciness is possibly the full dose of T4 kicking in. For a few days, I'm not going to take any and see if that helps. My doc has agreed to do the adrenal tests, thank God, but I want to wait until I'm a bit more stable before I have them. Val Thanks for the advice. Adrenals make sense. I had about 147 allergies when i was a kid. I will definately have my adrenals and Ferritin checked. It definately gives me a place to start. It does feel like the levoxyl builds up in my system very quickly and sort of sets there cooking my brain. Also i was divorced around 4 years ago right before all of the thyroid problems showed up. I've read that a high stress episode can cause the adrenals to become fatigued. It all makes sense. I am located in Kansas city, Mo. I'm checking the links section now to see about the adrenal saliva test. Thanks again.
