I had a friend years ago who had had thyroid cancer and she took Synthroid.

Then her cat went hypo too. seriously. when I had to feed the cat, I had to

mash up the pill in the kitty's food. I'm sure it was probably synthroid or

similar. she had gotten the kitty diagnosed when the kitty started acting

strange (loud whining) and other changed behavior.

Well...that's a good question. i remember my friend saying that Martha (the

cat) had thyroid problems just like her (and she took meds because of the

thyroid being removed)....but ya know how some folks are...she coulda just meant

" thyroid problems " and not hypo.

I didn't up it that fast on my cat. He has been on thyroid meds for 4.5 years

now. He was at three grains till last week then I just added another grain this

week. hypothyroid in cats is listed on the web, but you won't find any info

about medicating for it! All I have found just says it is rare. Now

hyperthyroidism is fairly common in cats, but now young ones, it is usually an

old age thing. My kitty is 7 and has been hypo since about 10 months old.

Are you sure it wasn't hyperthyroid? Crying and hungry all the time are

symptomatic of hyper. She may have been giving it Tapazole.
