Guest guest Posted June 25, 2004 Report Share Posted June 25, 2004 Hi Myream, I too just had a baby (4/26). I'm looking to get back on the wagon, so to speak, this coming week. I've been doing the nutrition about 90% and couldn't get weight workouts in this weeks since my hubby is away. My plan of attack is to make Sunday my meal prep day. I'll make everything I need for the week; that way I don't grab stuff that I shouldn't eat. Last week I was getting up early before DD woke up to get my workout in. DH would take care of her when she got up. I didn't get much sleep, but I'd rather get my exercise in and get one less hour of sleep, than the other way around. So I'll continue to do that. My husband and I truely believe that our son's head has been correcting itself over the last several weeks. I'm going for a second opinion tommorrow but need to be prepared should this dr say the same thing as the pediatrican. We are really upset about this DOC band and don't want to do it because we feel he's improving on his own. However the experts say that between 4-6 months is the best time to do this. I advise against it just because we waited so long to treat our son that now at 21 months he still has a noticable deformity. But that's just me. You may want to start documenting his progress with photo's because sometimes insurance companies require 2 months of documented repostioning. Definitly check out the repositioning tips in our files section here and they should help to make the best of the time you take to decide what you should do. I am one of the repositioning moderators here and I noticed my dd's flatness at about 2 months old. I started repositioning her at almost 4 months of age. What you do with your son's treatment is up to you, but I can tell you that my dd's head was, in my opinion, mild/moderate (I never went to a dr about it) and I was able to repo her round again. You can look at her pics in the Before and After/Repositioned folder in the Photos section. Depending on the severity of your son's plagio and whether or no he has tort, I think your son is at a good age to try some repositioning if you really don't want to do the band. I set a deadline at my dd's 6 mo well baby checkup and I repo'ed as aggressively as I possibly could for those 2 and a half months. At tha point, I re-evaluated my progress and determined that I was seeing progress and I was going to pass on the band and keep up the repo. You can do the same thing. As long as your son's plagio is not severe, you have enough time to decide on a band after you have repo'ed for a couple of months. Now I am not trying to tell you not to band your son, I am just trying to say that if you are really uncomfortable with the idea of banding, you do have an alternative that you can try. It's not successful for everyone, but like I said, you have time to try it and if you don't see the progress you were hoping for, then you can still opt to band. And I think if you are already seeing improvement, then you have a good chance of causing more correction when you really start aggressively trying. And if this is something you think you want to try, PLEASE let me know and I will give you all the details of what I did to cause 's roundness. I could post it all right now, but this would be 3 miles long if I added it to what I have already said. Do you have any pics you could post of your son's head? I wish I could be more helpful for diaper leaks, but I havent had a baby in the house for over a decade. When my darling was being casted and had leaks, I would stretch out the anti microbial shirt at the bottom as much as possible and would would wash with soap & water. Then I would blow dry the shirt until dry. I would allow the shirt to go back up smoothly and would then re petal it back onto the cast w/ moleskin, tape or Modge Podge. I would also line the back bottom portion of the cast front & back with panty liners in an effort to prevent further leaks onto the cast. Since then, other mums have come up with so many more effective ways to handle major blow-outs that Im sure you will get better advice from them. Congrats on your son's 1st cast!! If the cast is too tight for that you can buy " rubberized flannel sheeting " online and cut it into strips and tuck it under the cast. We duct tape the bottom of the cast in strips to sort of waterproof it. We use Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser or generic to spot clean the cast with unscented wipes, it seems to help remove smell. We remove and wash the t-shirt once a week, we can send you instructions. Have to say "check with your doc, at your own risk" but it's not that hard once you've done it. You can also pull it out from the bottom and wash it and dry carefully- instructions on ISOP home page link What to Expect... If your shirt is taped, you may have to un-tape it to remove it, not sure how that would affect everything or if it would mess up the shirt?
