Guest guest Posted March 7, 2004 Report Share Posted March 7, 2004 Hi everyone -- I was wondering if anyone has had a similar reaction to Actonel (or Fosamax) -- I took my first tablet Sat AM and followed the directions to a tee re take only with water, nothing before and nothing after for at least 30 minutes, do not lay down, etc. About 1 pm I started having severe upper abdominal pain - could not stand up straight. Shortly after this began, I had a loose bowel and then two episodes of diarrhea --- all of which were black in color. I took two Imodium and this seemed to settle it down. This AM had another loose black bowel movement. Could this be due to the Actonel? I am going to make an appointment with my doctor tomorrow to talk about this. She wanted me to start the Actonel because I have borderline osteoporosis. She also had me start taking 1500mg of Calcium and 800 mg of Vitamin D (She said most people in Maine have a chronic shortage of Vit D because there's not enough sun year round.)
