Guest guest
Hi Aase, I think you had mentioned the term arthrosis being used where you live..(Norway?) The hand clinic I go to has 'osteo arthrosis', as my diagnosis, rather than arthritis. I'd never heard of the term before that. I've search on the internet for an explanation of the difference between them. Even before reading your note. And *finally* I came across it!! At http://www.handuniversity.com it says: Arthritis is a condition in which a joint becomes inflamed--or red, swollen, hot, and painful. Degenerative arthritis is a condition in which a joint wears out, usually slowly over a period of many years. (Doctors sometimes also describe this same condition as degenerative arthrosis. Some doctors believe that degenerative arthritis isn't a true arthritis and that the term can cause confusion. The term arthrosis is used to describe the condition of a worn out joint. The term arthritis is used to describe true inflammatory conditions such as gout, infection, and rheumatoid arthritis.) Now I'm not confused about that any longer. CindyH- Wisc. Guest guest
Thanks for this clarification. My orthopedist has diagnosed me with arthrosis in my ankle, but I could never quite get him to explain how it was different from arthritis. It makes sense now.
