Guest guest
I had e-mailed before about my wife Merle's RSD and the problem we are having obtaining permanent disability. They (the company my wife worked for) are saying that people with RSD can not have their nails cut without being totally sedated and can not swim for physical therapy. I know before many of you stated you had your nails cut at a salon. Merle wears a 50ug/h diragesic patch and takes sucks on a actiq pop as well taking muscle relaxants. Has anybody ever come up against these problems getting disability. Please note she already receives SS disability, our problem is with the state of NJ. Guest guest
Dan - I think that you'll find that many folks here have faced difficulty in their efforts to get disability coverage. I'm curious.....Are you referring to long term disability coinsurance through your wife's place of work or is she trying to get SSDI? There's different types of disability coverage and some are more difficult to get than others. I remember you talking about how they had given your wife a hard time about having her nails cut. As for myself, and I've had it for 13 years and have very limited use of my left hand when it comes to doing things, I can use my thumb and index finger to trim my nails on the opposing hand. On my bad hand, I have a friend who helps me. Sedation? Lol. You grin and bear it. There isn't an insurance company on Earth that pays for manicures. Now I'm not saying that I could tolerate a manicure but obviously nails need to be trimmed. SOunds to me like they are looking every which way that they can to avoid giving your wife her due. Have you thought about an attorney? Sometimes just have a letter from an attorney can signal that you're not going to put up with their garbage. It might be worth considering.... And by the way, physical therapy in water is a very acceptable way of helping someone who has RSD to exercise the muscles in a less painful manner. Please stay in touch with us. We will all do whatever we can to offer support to you and your wife.
