Mine used to thunk; I thought it was my spondiliothesis site. But now I am suspicious of whether my discs are collapsing or bone spurs are forming and catching on ligaments. There used to be a dull pain that was associated with it. Now; I feel increasing pressure that I can only relieve if I lay against the floor. I will also stand with my back against the wall, do a pelvic tilt and then ever so slowly lean forward. There will be a resounding pop in the area that used to be a thunk and the pressure will be relieved; but will be dull and achey. I have no idea if my 'thunk and pop' is the same as your 'thunk'; we may be talking about two different things.
