Guest guest
Hello All, It is so nice to find this group. I had no idea there were other people out there wrestling with this decision. My son has plagiocephaly and scaphocephaly as well. I first noticed it at 1 1/2 months and tried and tried to reposition him. I carried him in a front carrier to keep him off his back during the day and he was only on his back at night but at his 4 month appointment he was worse so our pediatrician sent us to Cranial Tech for a consultation. His mid- face and skull-base asymmetry are only 3 and 4 respectively, but his cranial vault asymmetry is an 11 and very noticeable - at least to me. He also has some right frontal prominence which makes his eye appear to be deeper set on that side. Our insurance doesn't cover this treatment (although I am going to appeal) so this has been a difficult decision. I am a stay at home mom and we live only on my husband's income. $3000 is a tremendous amount of money to us. Thankfully we live in the Dallas area and there is a treatment facility near us so we don't have travel expsences also. Male pattern baldness runs in our family and I don't think I could handle knowing that I could have done something about his head shape and not have done it just because of money. My husband shaves his head as a personal choice and because he is a boy I want my son to have the option of doing that as well when he grows up. Anyway, we had his casting appointment last Friday and will be getting the band on Monday. I just wanted to introduce ourselves and say how thankful I am to have found this group. I have gotten a lot of negative response from family and friends about our decision and I feel a little more validated after having read some of your posts. Thanks again! Blessings, Mom to - 5 months - DOC Band - Dallas, TX
