I don't have a research article, but while there probably are genetic

vulnerabilities to MS, researchers are sure it results from an

infectious agent, which arrived in England, say, around the 1800's.

Other islands didn't get it until WWII when troops arrived there from

elsewhere. Likely the infection is able to pass the blood/CNS barrier

in some people.

But I think EDS people are more susceptible, which makes sense since

our membranes won't be as robust. I've had attacks indistinguishable

from MS attacks, but since we scar less, MRI results are often

" ambiguous " .

and EDs are in the same genetic family. In my family on my mother's

side I have 2 cousins with MS and they are all in the same family

line. We are not sure but we think my EDS is either from some

recessive gene on my mom's side or recissive recessive with both my

parents. No one is really sure.

heard of an EDS/MS connection before. MS is a demylenating disease.

Myelin is a " sheath " that covers the nerves in the brain and else

where in the spinal cord. MS (multiple sclerosis) attacks the myelin

sheath and causes the myelin to harden on the nerves, thus preventing

the nerve impules to conduct along the myelin sheath. MS is prevalent

in temperate zones and is thought to be caused by a virus that attacks

the body. The neurologist that taught a class during my speech

pathology training said that if people can get out of a temperate zone

before their kids reach puberty, the MS is less likely to attack the

system. BTW, temperate zones are areas of the world that have all 4

seasons is how the neuro explained it to me.

I don't see how the two are considered related. If someone has a

research article or two on this I'd be interested in reading it....
