Jai,

I had an ulcer that lasted over 1 and a half years on my left ankle when I was 20...the drs said it was from the raynaud's. I was in the hospital off and on because the ulcer was so bad it was causing infections into the blood stream. They treated it several ways before finding the right combination. Wrapping it with different creams on it..IV antibiotics...Prednisone and they actually did surgery to remove all the bad tissue and try to get the blood vessels to flow better. Nothing worked except for 2 creams together..a cortizone ointment and an antibiotic cream...I had to change the wrapping 4x a day and it cleared up over 4-5 months finally with this. Maybe it was a combination of everything with the right combination of ointments...but it was definetly caused by the constriction and low flow of blood there. I didn't have RSD then...just raynaud's that would cause this type of ulcer. it's the same type of ulcers caused in

diabetics..they checked me over and over for diabetes at the time. My drs have discussed putting me on medication for raynaud's...but for some reason or another I never get put on meds...and thankfully haven't had another ulcer like that. I have had smaller ulcers since but the drs get right on them.. I find now that I have RSD that anything and everything that I get that a dr can not explain is related to RSD. At first i actually thought my eye problem was RSD related just because it always seems to be the answer I am given now. Drs forget not everything is caused by RSD when you have other disorders going on as well. I hope you never have to go through another ulcer like that..Hugs..Ginnyjaismonkey@... wrote:

Raynaud's is never treated with medication except if you get ulcers from the poor circulation and they can treat it with alpha blockers or cream. So please if you have more info on the correlation that would be great..thanks..Hugs..Ginny

Hi Ginny,

For the Raynaud's I was on a med called Trental for a while. It is a med that helps to dilate the blood vessels. I do not take it anymore, living in FL the Raynauds did not act up to much after a while. I have been spending some time in MD lately due to surgery and some of my docs are at s Hopkins. It gets cold up there!! I had a non-healing wound on my RSD leg that was there for almost 2 years. I spent lots of time in the hosp with infections and surgeries on the wound. Last year they treated it with a special dressing and FINALLY it healed. They did not think it was from the Raynauds but from the RSD. But who knows???? They both cause poor blood flow. Hope you are doing good, Take care, Love Jai
