Well, I went to the nurse practitioner today because getting into a diabetes

class isn't going to be that esy this spring as I'd hoped. After speaking with

her she said I seemed to have a good handle on what I'm doing and why so she

though I could wait until Fall. I am thinking that over. My insurance only

pays for 10 hrs of education one time in my life and with my other medical

issues I don't want to miss any classes that I can't make up.

So here is what she said (and she wrote it down for me too!):

1) for me take a BS before breakfast and it should be between 90-120. Mine run

between 80-102 with the 102 area being the exception.

2) take a BS about 2 hrs after a meal and it should be under 140. IF for some

reason I take another one later on it should drop. It is always in the upper

130s with an occasional lower 140. Once it went to 153 and I got nuts and

checked again in an hour and it was already dropping.

She (NP) said that I was doing fine, and not to worry if I am a bit up higher

than the 140 because there is a variation now and then on how the test strips or

whatever work. Just to keep an eye on it if it persists which it hasn't.

Phew. This list has taught me so much so when I went to her I had the right

questions. My biggest problem at the moment is that being in a power w/c

exercise isn't that easy so I have to really watch my foods.

I asked her how the dr thinks I can figure out what foods to eat if he tells me

to only test 2x/day and that I don't need to test after meals. cheech. He's

the one who says I can manage this by diet LOL....

Anyway, I have a great dietician who put together 4 different meal plans for me

at 1200 calories a day to try out based on what I told her I like to eat and

can digest. We are going to start from those 4 menus.

BUT first I am on a nearly starvation diet (no BS problems <big smile>) because

of a procedure I have to get done on April 7. Then it will be back to starting

her menus and hoping my eating disorder doesn't kick in.

In the mean time on 4-500 calories a day temporarily I am loosing weight

HOOOOORRRAAAYYY. There is a good flip side to this coin. Now just for the dx

procedure on the 7th to turn out negative! (let us pray????!)

I am not on any meds. I've just had to increase my prednisone 10mg a day for

about 2 weeks and then try to wean down the 10 mgs. which isn't easy. If I do

something to help one problem, it hurts another. How frustrating. BUT the

dietician and NP assure me if I loose the weight I should, the pre-diabetes

condition they say I am in will pose me no problems so that is nice.
