Guest guest
It's called Proctalgia Fugax. It is extremely painful. I get it, usually in the middle of the night. It wakes me up, and I get sweaty, and feel like I could pass out. It is the most intense pain. The good thing is, it only lasts usually for a minute or 2. The worst time I had it, it lasted about 10 minutes. I thought I was gonna throw up, then die! You can also look up Levator ani syndrome, but this pain is felt higher in the rectum. There on sites on the web for both of these. Sometimes I get a minor bout of it. It won't be the intense pain, but an obvious spasming of the rectal muscle. Don't worry. Other than the terrible pain, it is not dangerous. Most doctors don't know about it because nobody talks to them about it - partly because it's embarrassing, and partly because the pain only lasts a very short time.. I did once, and got a rectal exam for fissures. That was really embarrassing. My current dr knows nothing about it. Never heard of it. I actually found out what it is from the woman who was doing Rolfing on me. I have found the best way to relieve the pain is to try to massage it. (I know!) I usually sit on the toilet, and sort of push and relax those muscles. If that doesn't work, I massage with my hand, or use my back massager. I know, this is all sort of weird to talk about. But, I know that intense pain very well, and I will do ANYTHING to relieve it. Again, this is probably the most intense pain I've felt. Thank goodness it only lasts a short time!
