Guest guest Posted January 28, 2004 Report Share Posted January 28, 2004 dear sweet joy! long time!! i don't want you to lose encouragement. it can & it will happen. before i quit my full time job, i totally checked it all out, to be sure i could afford to do it. well, between the state disability (which in CA, pays you your gross salary for the 1st yr you're off), then as soon as you are approved for social security disability, you get that. so, i have an overlap, from june of 2002 til nov of 2003, when i received both. that was fantastic. for six months. so, now i'm just getting SSD, which is $1129/mo. it depends on how much you put into it during your working days. in CA, that amt of money, as expensive as it is to live here, especially in santa barbara, it's very little money. if my boyfriend didn't pay me $700/mo to help w/the mortgage, i'd be dead. that's why i've been out looking for another job, altho i don't know if it'll work or not. it's kinda scary for me really. everyone around me (even my own brain) is pressuring me to get a job cuz of the lack of money we've got. it stinks!! i have to pay $460/mo for health insurance. i have to pay a credit counseling service $500/mo. when i think about it, is just scares the heck out of me. you know? and then there's the prescription & dr copays, labs, tests, etc. i can't get medicare until i've been on SSD for 25 mo. so, that's a pretty long time from now. well, joy, i just wanted you to know that you have to fight them every step of the way, doll. i was very lucky...i filled out the application, w/some pointers from a state agency, mailed it in, got a letter to come down to the SS office & bring my state disability letter so they could copy them, then got a letter from SS requesting my presence at a physical exam, which was done by a dr who comes here to a chiro's office & does exams on the wkend. i got a young dr who knew about EDS, FMS, TOS, etc, fortunately. he asked a few questions, poked me a bit to where it hurt & then i was done. i was pretty positive when i left that he would turn in a favorable report & then i got my letter in the mail about 4 - 6 wks later. hip hip hooray!!! i got it! so, i will be praying for you, sweetie, that you will get it, too. how are your little darling girls? i may be coming to gainesville in the next few months to visit my nieces. is that far from you? take good care & know i'm here for you. love & anjil hugs () : ) jily Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
