Guest guest
I have these too. Not as bad as you say but I am lucky. I have taken Dilantian all my life so my gums actually appear to be sort of normal for someone taking Dilantian. If I didn't take it the fissures would be prominent. My gums bleed at the drop of a hat and that is quite abnormal for Dilantian use. EDS? Oh yep I am pretty sure. It is neat to be able to blame EDS... It is weird, it must be EDS! HA!!! LOL! LOL! Guest guest
I have had a few spontaneous fissures that start in the gum between the teeth and then angles up in a semicircle. They are deep enough to put your finger nail into and if dental floss gets in it - yeOUCH! Mine never sem to heal. My dentist has no idea or what to do with them. SInce the deepest part is the only raw open area, it can't really be sutured. Some are deep enough I can feel the tooth itself at the deepest point Has anyone esle had these? I'd bet money they are from EDS and told my dentist so. I even said to him - without the EDS, what would we have to blame weird things on? Guest guest
Hi Debbi, Actually, Dilantin will cause your gums to bleed and the bleeding can be quite profound. I was on Dilantin for a time and stopped because of this side effect. Do you have your levels checked regularly? Guest guest
Hi Joyce, I too get spontaneous fissures in my gums and have constant bleeding, soreness, gum recession etc too. I also get huge blood blisters from time to time on my gums as well, very disturbing to have them burst suddenly and your mouth fill with blood! I've always have trouble with my teeth and gums, I even had a five rooted tooth removed once! I'd be pretty sure about them being EDS related as well to be honest. LoL - Debbi is right that we always tend to " blame it on the EDS " though!! Anyway, I thought I would pass on something that I use that my Mum gave me. She gets terrible mouth ulcers related to her Crohns disease and the doctor gave her Adcortyl in Orabase. It's a very thick paste that you apply to the sore area of your mouth, and not very pleasant to taste or feel but it does help to take the sting and soreness out of the crack, sores and ulcers and promote healing too. I was amazed as regular creams etc just don't help, but this really does seem to make things at least more comfortable. Here is a link to some info about it ( you may have to cut and paste the link to get it to work) http://www.mypharmacy.co.uk/medicines/medicines/a/adcortyl_orabase/adc orty_orabase.htm Hope this helps a little.
