Thanks Trish,

Ain't it great to have support:) I have gone and chatted several times

and I did find it helpful. I guess that is where I got a lot of " what

happens the first few months " questions answered. Lately there has been

stuff said that leads me to believe there can be later " complications " .

There has even been talk of kidney transplants. All this " talk " scares me

and probably unnecessarily. I feel like if we had open communication with

the post-ops of 12 months plus, we would be very up to date. I'm just so

shakey about the fear of the unknown. Thanks for letting me blabber. Liz

What I meant was don't get offended because they have there own space to go.

There is nothing stopping you from reading off of their site but I believe

that Dr. R got it started so that post ops would not have to deal with the

shear volume of e-mail as this list gets. The people that post on that list

are pretty much the same ones that post here. If you go on to the onelist

search you will find it. What I am saying is that they just don't deal with

the insurance issues and MGB vs RNY issues like we do. Please don't get mad

at me I am just trying to help.

Dear Sweet Jackie,

Of course I am not mad at you, I know you are trying to help and I really

do appreciate it. Please PLEASE keep on helping. People like me depend on

people like you. I am glad to know that I can go on-line and " look " . I feel

like I can really hear what lies down the road. I am excited now and I'm

going to try it tonight. Thanks again for your help Sweetie. Love, Liz

Genz,

Thank you for repeating that about the kidney thing. I think when I

first read it I must have freaked out and not saw the NOT HAPPEN part LOL. I

thought, " Oh great, I'll lose even more weight when they have to take out my

kidneys. " LOL

No, that's not it at all....post ops needed a place where they could gather

to ask each other pertinent questions relating to their surgery.....and not

have to wade through hundreds of emails of newbies struggling with

insurance, contacts, etc. Imagine being post op, having gone through all

that process and then having to wade through it everyday in order to get

your own questions answered when it no longer pertains to you. The post op

patients are VERY accomodating, they just don't like blanket " can you be my

contact " requests. That was not it's intentions anyway---the contacts are

so we can ask post ops *specific* questions about the surgery. Some post

ops have a pre made " diary " of sorts that they can send out if requested,

but imagine having to go through your story every day after being asked

generalized contact requests. I think most of them have the patience of Job

to handle that every day. There is nothing any post op is hiding. Even

patients that have had a few difficulties have no problems sharing their

stories (Sharon A is a prime example.) It just takes a little work on our

part to be considerate and ask them questions directly.

Liz, no, actually alot of the new people have been asking the same question.

Used to be anyone could be on the post list, but due to clutter, they

decided to make it for post ops only. We had asked if it be permissible to

allow preops to LURK in the post op group only, not be able to post, so we

could glean some well needed information without interfering, but I am not

sure that egroups is set up to let one group of people lurk and others not

without having a big time moderator setting everyone's options up

separately. The idea is still being thrown out there.

>>Is something being hidden? What

do they talk about that they don't want us to hear?<<

I'm sorry, but when Dr. Rutledge comes to see you in the hospital for the

first time after your surgery he gives you a special password and teaches

you the secret handshake. Both of these things are needed in order to

subscribe to the postop list.
