Guest guest
I know the itching from the RSD is bad enough without the meds causing more pain. I understand how bad the itching can get, have had to have gloves taped on so wouldn't tear my skin off. Back to some info om meds, some have different bases, Darvocet is Morphine based. While Vicodin and the Tylenol 2,3,Vico ES, Vico HP, Lortab are all Codine based. Several of our pain meds are actually synthetic forms of natural compounds, Ultram is made from a synthetic form of Codine. Just like Methadone is a synthetic Heroine. Well there are about 10 different bases which all work on different receptor cells in the brain. Sometimes when your meds are switched you have to make sure they arn't just going to go to the same already flooded receptor's, and have a different Opiate base, if not then tolerances build quickly. This is also where the itching comes in, if you can't take the base Opiate switching to another med with the same base is going to cause the same problem over and over again. The best Pain Management Doc I have ever had was an Anestesiologist, think about it, they really have to know their procedures and drugs cause when you are in surgery your life is in their hands. Sorry this is so long. One thing we RSDer's need to remember is if you do have to have surgery request an Anestesiologist from the Hosp. Cancer or Pain ctr. Make an appointment with them before Surgery and GET DETAILED ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE TAKEN AND WHAT WORKS FOR YOU, THEY ARE ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR AFTER CARE PAIN MGNT. WHILE IN THE HOSP. THEY WILL BE MUCH MORE ABLE TO KEEP YOU UNDER DURING SURGERY, AND MAKE SURE YOU ARE KEPT COMFORTABLE AFTER. I hope this helps some of you. Blessings of Love, Hugz and Peace __________________________________________________
