Hey - if we are going to talk about and all the other 'names' he has or/and has been given, we should let him be here. Otherwise - ignore. Personal problems - privately e-mail already stated sources. Still persists - tell the world.

I'm sick of this entire topic. This list has pretty badly degenerated, imo.

Doubt I'll be staying.

I hope you wont go Mona. You are a great asset to

this list, and you were one of the ppl I thought of

suggesting as moderator before I volunteered myself. The list has degenerated a but with this but it will

pick up after ths blows over.

I appreciate that Pete, but I would have to refuse the invitation, because I'm about to move to another state and pick up the career thing. Time will be a premium.

Further, it appears there is some animosity and/or suspicion of LSR/SOS members on this llist, and life is too short for such bullshit.

Hi folks

I cant claim to understand nety's post entirely, and

actually I dont necesarily agree that we cant talk

about ppl not here. Cant we talk abt Dubya then?

However, letting this matter drop does seem a good

idea. I had a pretty well identical scenario on

another list with a woman in Ireland, and that one

already had my address, and had been in London on her

way to Switzerland!

Even to this very day probably all I have to do is

mention her name on that now dead list, and a splurge

of outrage will descend on me from her and her bf. It

was very funny, until I read the bit about how she

might actually call on me, then I stopped laughing.

And that was only a woman, who are *usually* less

dangerous.

I hope you wont go Mona. You are a great asset to

Mona and Pete:

After initially forwarding emails I personally received to 12-step-free (and

I accidentally duplicated a couple), I learned how to take care of this from

Ben and have not mentioned certain people since, except in off list posts

that do not affect this list. I too hope you will stay Mona. Your input on

the legal aspects of the case in New York has been very welcome. Though I

believe I can learn anything my doctor knows, law is vastly more complex to

me, and varies from state to state. It's nice that someone on the list has

this background.

I, too, do not want to see Mona go.

Having made a major interstate move myself a year ago, I can understand that

Mona will not

have a lot of time to spend on e-lists.

But what is this about LSR/SOS? I wasn't aware that there was a problem. What

is going

on here? Is there something that needs to be brought out into the open? I

certainly hope

someone isn't trying to run Mona and other LSR/SOS people off the list.

Well I have to accept that is true coming from certain quarters. I

will name Ken simply because he is the list's founder and hence this

will inevitably have a greater significance to those who have been

here since when he ran the show. However, I repeat that I (and I

hope also) want this to be a list were *anyone* who wants it

based on its description feels welcome here, but on the understanding

that their *views* may be criticised by others who dont share them -

including whatever recovery ideas someone else might have and the

groups, if any, they join with regard to them. The only thing I dont

want to see here are personal threats and unqualified XA apologia.

Ppl have the right to do the latter but they can do it somewhere else.

I see that we have two dimensions of opinion here that can cause

friction. One is an abstinence/moderation dimension, and the other

is a pro-support-group/anti-support-group dimension. (The latter has

also a secondary dimension, pro- and anti- coercion, but I'll leave

that out for now). A person might oppose AA on the basis of either

dimension while agreeing with it on the other one. Those who oppose

AA primarily on its religious basis may agree with it on both

dimensions. Any two folks on opposite sides of either dimension are

likely to argue, but I don't see that as a bad thing, and those

diagonally opposite are likely to debate like hell. Unlike in step

groups where high levels of conformity are expected, this is imo a

good thing if *personal* respect is maintained.

There are usually a great deal more protests and demonstrations on

the streets of democracies than on those of severely oppressive

regimes - protests are often the sign of a healthy government, not an

oppressive one. It's human nature to see ppl and groups as either

" white hats " and " black hats " and anyone not wearing a white one must

be wearing a black one. I initially found the diversity of opinion

on addict-l disorientating - who were the guys in the white hats? I

sometimes wonder if I did the right thing by picking my stand with

Ken too early and helping to polarize that list in a way from which

it never really recovered. But that's history.

I think you yourself said that " The enemy of my enemy is my friend "

is unwise thinking. I'd like to think that this list can be the way

an addiction related list ought to be, with lots of views and not

stepper dominated the way all the supposedly neutral ones inevitably

are.

Those who play the game " Dungeons and Dragons " will recall how each

character in the game appears " spiritually " on two dimensions,

" Good/Evil " , and " Lawful/Chaotic " . The latter actually corresponds

rather nicely to the Support Group/No Support Group dimension. How

Good and Evil correspond to the Abstinence/Moderation dimension I

leave to the reader! By the rules of the game one can be neutral on

one dimension but not both, with one excpetion, a kind of character

called a " Druid " . Druids are True Neutrals. If they see a situation

which is slanted on either dimension they work to bring it back to

neutrality. If they see a universally " Good " society, they will work

to introduce " Evil " into it, and vice versa.

I have my own positions on our dimensions which should be common

knowledge by now, but even before I became moderator in some ways I

have been a bit Druid-like, to be a universal " Devil's Advocate " if

you will. When Steve arrived with biodeterminist theories and a pro-

abstinence and LSR position, my instinct was to present the opposite

point of view. A shift in any other direction however may have

produced a similar skeptical reaction.

I did this more as an intellectual exercise originally, but as an

active moderator I think it may be useful to do this in order to stop

the list being dominated by any particular perspective - all the time

being true to my own views of course, which is somewhat difficult.

In the game of D&D, one has to become extremely advanced in the game

before you are allowed to become a Druid. :)

Moving a long distance must be very stressful and I think you are

finding things taxing now that wont be so bad when you are settled.

Why not just go " No mail " on the list when you move, and maybe check

the list off the web when you settle, and leave yourself open about

whether to get involved again? Again I bleive you would be a very

sad loss, but either way very best of luck with your move. I might

even join the LSR list to keep in touch with you - if they'll have

me. ;)

If certain person writes to you again saying he is hacking away at

If certain person writes to you again saying he is hacking away at

university records to find his old friend, then tell him to do his

friend a favor by updating his entry to a better degree.

Pete:

Said person has been quiet. Still has hotmail, but was perhaps warned not to

post such intimidating diatribes. Bet my last dollar the guy still lurks. I

care not. And I care not what he thinks of me - which makes his attacks on

me turn into vapor. Also, I was reflecting that it's not a very good idea to

threaten people you don't really know. You may get far more than you

bargained for. Just for curiosity's sake, and my own interest in criminology

and the psychological aspects thereof, I do wonder what this person's profile

would be. I'm not familiar with the ways of people in various parts of the

UK, and their use of language, so it's difficult for me to analyze. Overall

the posts seemed deranged regardless of what part of the English speaking

world they come from. I have no trouble understanding you, and you're a Brit.

BTW - It seems to me that the Royal family is like a very big deal in the UK.

What's your take on this? I was sorry Princess died, sorrier for her

sons. Her ex husband seems rather strange to me as well as his mother.

Perhaps I'm missing out on the mores of such a systems. The idea of a Royal

family makes me think of Cinderella and fairy tales. What is with this

royalty thing, and why are the English people so caught up in it? I don't

understand.

Jan,

What I don't understand is why so many Americans are caught up with British

royalty.

I don't either. Everytime they fart, it's in the news. The ONLY time I

tuned in was when Princess died. We were the same age, and had a

child at the same year, and I felt so sorry for her boys.
