Guest guest Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 Drinking too much water can have an adverse effect. It can cause an elcetrolyte embalance. There is a whole ward at the psych hospital in Logansport Indiana for people who are addicted to water. They are monitored to make sure they don't drink to much water. They even have to lock the toilet lid so they don't drink out of the toilet. They weigh them every day and give them measured amounts of water. If they are allowed home visits and come back with a lot of water weight gain they are not allowed to go home again until they are monitored for a long time. Anything in excess is not good for you. Guest guest Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 Do you have some sources on how much water is too much? Do you have a link/source on more information on this hospital ward and/or addiction/condition? I agree that anything in excess is not good for you. I don't think anyone would say otherwise. How much water is excess water? I'm going to our city's Polaski Days parade now but I'll see what I can find on this too. It's interesting to me. Guest guest Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 I have read about this a couple of times and there was actually a CSI or some such show where a girl died they thought she had od'd froma drug overdose on ectasy but in actuality it had made her believe she was extremely thirsty and she died from a severe electolyte imbalance... that said it would be almost impossible to do in eality. It is very difficult to consume to much water. This is a very rare and complicated disorder. Quote

Guest guest Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 I wonder, how does a person know if they are " addicted " to water? I drink a lot of water every day but I don't think that I am addicted. Do you know what are the guidelines or warning signs? Electrolyte imbalance can also be from excessive vomiting. This interests me, if you have any more information please pass it along. Lacy -- Drinking Too Much Water Drinking too much water can have an adverse effect. It can cause an elcetrolyte embalance.
