Guest guest
Hi everyone. I haven't posted in a while. Jake has been on keto since May and, to say the least, it has been a roller coaster. For the moment, things have been pretty stable, but we had to take him off solid food and put him on strictly liquid keto to get any seizure control. The result is less seizures and an unhappy, hungry baby. Anyway, we check his ketones twice a day and once a week we also check his weight, specific gravity, and urine for blood. Usually, these numbers are all fine. Last night, we checked and the test came back positive for " high " amounts of blood in the urine. Of course, I panicked because I wasn't sure if this was an emergency and here we are on a Sunday night of a holiday weekend - no neuro in sight. So, we checked it again twice this morning and it was negative for blood. Do any of you have any experience with this? Was last night just a spurious result or can it be there one minute and not the next? I am going to put a call in to the keto clinic, but wanted to get your take on things. Thanks and hope all are well! Amy Mom to Jake, 2 years old, keto since 5/04.
Guest guest
I had the same with Francesca - it showed really high, then negative. A few weeks later, it showed blood in the urine again. I gave a urine sample to the doctor to check, but that was negative too. We have a kidney ultrasound booked for 17th September, but I'm sure everything's OK kidney stone wise. Sometimes infections can cause blood in the urine I believe. Anyway, the upshot is, no need to panic I think! Get it checked out of course, but it's not an emergency. Take care , Mum to Francesca, Keto Kid since Sept 03, drug free since May 04, doing well > Hi everyone. I haven't posted in a while. Guest guest
If you get it once and not again, I would ignore it. But I would check more often for right now, different times of the day. And if you find you get it intermittently, take a sample in for urinalysis.....BUT make sure you take in a sample that shows blood on your stix! Very important, been there, done that wendymmw wrote: > I had the same with Francesca - it showed really high, then > negative. A few weeks later, it showed blood in the urine again.
