Tomorrow Clara had an appointment for a fitting to get the new

Transear aid for unilateral loss. I just got off the phone with the

audiologist now, and we have to cancel. It turns out they can't use

the Transear if the person has ear tubes. She said she wasn't sure if

Clara still had tubes. I told her at least 3 times in various phone

conversations that Clara got tubes in May. I've been excited about

getting this for Clara for quite some time, so I'm really bummed right

now that I had to find this out the day before the appointment. I

realize she has lots of patients and can't remember every detail about

all of them, but that's why people take notes. She could have told me

this a long time ago.

Anyway, we'll have to wait until the tubes fall out. Her first set of

tubes never came out, they became blocked and the ENT pulled them out

when he put the new ones in. I wonder if it's likely that will happen

again. I hope these tubes will fall out in a reasonable period of

time and she won't need another set.

I just wish people would listen. I was never especially fond of this

audi, but she's the only one that I contacted that had even heard of

the Transear.

Oh, Cheryl!

I'm so sorry.

For what it's worth - 's " had " his TransEar for almost 2 weeks, and

he's only gotten to wear it for five days. We got it back from the first

set of repairs last Thursday at 2 PM - by bedtime, it wasn't working. No

one can figure out what's wrong - and the gang down at Ear Technologies is

busting its rear to try to get it to work for him, but we're still in the

quandary of " doesn't have his " extra " ear! "

I guess they've been overnighting parts to our audi left and right, but

every time they get to Omaha, they don't work. Apparently the entire unit

is being shipped back to Nashville tonight for them to figure out what's

going on.

I just think of it as kid-proofing the TransEar to pave the way for

Clara. :-)

Hugs to you,

Kris

I'd confirm the info with the company. Here's the phone number.

TransEar was awarded US Patent 6,643,378 B2 in 2004 and received FDA approval in

mid-2005. TransEar is so new that your hearing healthcare professional may not

yet be familiar with it. If that's the case, simply ask your hearing healthcare

professional to contact Ear Technology Corporation at 1-.

Good point!

Rick Gilbert is the person I've mainly been dealing with, but everyone there

has been extremely nice, patient, and helpful. Heck - when I call down and

only have to mention 's *first* name and they know who he is, it's

pretty nice.

Thanks Kris and ,

I hope they fix 's Transear soon, that hast to be so frustrating,

especially since school is starting very soon. I did think that the

only advantage would be that they can make improvements to the design

while we wait for Clara's tubes to fall out :-)

, to clarify the previous post a bit, I spoke with the audi some

time last week, she asked (again) if Clara still had tubes. I told

her she did and she then spoke to a couple people in the company

specifically about the tube issue. What annoys me is this all could

have been clarified back in June if she had remembered, or read in her

files, that Clara has tubes. But thanks for the number, I thought

about calling the company to ask questions, but I thought perhaps they

mainly talk to professionals and don't deal directly with the consumers.

Thanks, Cheryl.

School actually started here yesterday (it just feels obnoxiously early to

me, but I'm still used to CT school schedules!), so 's using his

EduLink for now. I'm just not saying anything to him about it being done

until we know that it's back here and in perfect working order. :-)

And for what it's worth - I've never had any issues with Rick (or the rest

of the gang) working with me as a client. If anything, it's been really

helpful - my audi is part of a pretty busy practice, and so I was able to

get questions answered more quickly (with her blessing) by talking to Rick

myself than asking her to try to get in contact with him and then make both

of their schedules work together.

If you decide to call them yourself, feel free to use 's name. :-)

Kris, School starting in mid-August is obnoxiously early, but I guess

that means summer vacation starts earlier. I guess the Transear for

Clara is on hold for now, but I will definitely keep in mind that I

can call them myself if I have questions. I just assumed that the

audiologist is the " tech support " person and that's that. Perhaps

while we are waiting for Clara's tubes to fall out, I can try to find

another audi. Like I said, I'm not particularly thrilled with ours.

Take care, Cheryl
