Guest guest
We just had our 4th month checkup with 's keto team. We got the blood monitor and it helped us understand what pattern 's ketones were taking. He starts out the day high and seizures are almost 90% controlled. After breakfast he drops the lowest he'll be all day and the seizures are back about as often as pre-diet (myoclonics every minute) then he comes back up a little before lunch. After lunch he drops again (not as big of a drop but still a drop) and then he comes back up before dinner a little. So steadily he is coming back throughout the day with drops after each meal and then rebounding eventually that evening by sometimes as early as 7:00 PM to where the seizures are almost gone completely. Sometimes we see hours without more than 1 myoclonic. Almost perfect and it is wonderful. His ketones are 6+ on the blood monitor at this time. He is the most alert after 9:00 PM. He doesn't go to sleep until really late at night because he is so seizure free and ready to go. Today his dietician said that his tryglycerides were high (>400) & that she thought MCT oil might help bring him into deeper ketosis and also help lower his tryglycerides. Does anyone have an opinion on this plan. I don't have much knowledge on the MCT oil or tryglycerides. Any info is appreciated. Guest guest
If he is losing ketones after meals is there a chance he is getting too many carb/calories? Have you had his meals double checked? Guest guest
Maybe try making one meal into 2 snacks and avoid the negative affects of the single larger meal. Other things might be to lower calories by 50 to 100 and see the affect that has. Since you have reasonable control, you probably don't need to change the ratio just now. For some people MCT oil increases ketone levels. I use safflower oil or canola oil or BECEL margarine that has canola oil. We still have high cholesterol. We also were still using Tegretol that has been said to raise cholesterol. There are other oils or fats that can be used to try to lower cholesterol. I notice from a newspaper article that coconut oil that some people use on the diet is bad for cholesterol. There is obviously more work to be done in this area for people on the diet.
