Laurie - Maybe all of us here could share some of the ways/gadgets/innovations that we have found to help us get some of the more ordinary tasks done throughout or day. As weel, we could list some of the resources out there (e.g. the "special" van for folks who are disabled) and the other ways that we emotionally cope. BarbaraRoepkelaurie@... wrote:

Barbara,

It's a hard thing to do when giving up someones independence. But I have found other ways around it. It' takes a little imagination one will be amazed at how the mind can think of other ways to go on living.

One thing that comes to mind for me being that my grasp is weak is

something that my OT therapist suggested to me. Grabbing a broom

handle can be difficult so she told me to buy some pipe insulation

that you can get at building centers by the yard, have it cut down to

suit the task at hand and it gives a broader grasping range so that

you dont have to make quite a fist when sweeping or doing other

things that require you to hold onto something. I hope that made

sense as I realized that I was babbling but its hard to describe

otherwise lol.

Carla,

I think the people living the the northern part of the panhandle might disagree with you there.
