Guest guest
used to have high ones like that (actually, don't think he ever got as high as 7.0 though??) when his cals were deficient and he wasn't in the correct 'fat burning process', both after fasting and after excercise. Same process both times in his case, body went searching for energy, didn't find any calories left, didn't burn any body fat (which he did have enough of to burn btw, his body just wasn't 'doing it right', prob from being metabolically deranged) didn't find any glucose in the blooodstream, next port of call was using muscle mass. Muscle mass converted to protein and then glucose in the bloodstream = high glucose readings and what were prob sub clincial seizures as a result while he was using it for energy/fuel. I used to panic when he even tried to climb stairs when he was in that state - excercise (so having to find energy from somewhere) saw him drooling afterwards, dilated pupils, and now and then when he was particulary unstable, a clincial seizure Those days have left me so paranoid that I still won't let him participate in Phys ed at school, won't let him walk to school either, er actually I go so far as to make sure we are allowed to park right by his class when I take him to school every day, even the sloped school driveway has me break out in a cold sweat... They are doing cross country training right now at school as a matter of fact, I wrote a big fat note in red writing with 'no runnng allowed' at his last IEP. We are building excercise tolerance levels up more thru physio and resistance type excercises striving to get his lean muscle mass back up with the play. Once he shows to be doing ok in that dept, I will start stretching him to walking and then running, little steps.... If glucose had been in the normal ranges at those times I might have been swaying more to carnitne deficiency as a cause, (excercise intolerance and seizures being 2 of those symptoms) but BS was always high, and this wouldn't be affected by carnitine levels, well I don't think so anyways... ----- Original Message ----- From: mmc@... When Jess was on diet, once or twice we had glucose measurements of 7 which I figured was absoloutely nuts on diet, thought my machine was out of whack. But I think I got one on old macine, and one on new one. Other than that her levels ran usually in the 3s to mid 4s, except for her periodic levels of going too low. Both times the 7 readings occured in the afternoon, after school, once after exercise (cross country running). Any thoughts on the 7s?
