Well, I'm glad to hear that you have things under control now. This whole

gut thing is so confusing. I've been reading alot about it and wondering where

to start. Of course, the probitotics seemed to have increased his seizures.

THey have slowed down since we stopped them. Did Mike ever get little

white bumps on his stomach? I have been told this is Yeast overgrowth from the

gut?

We are at the point where I know that something isn't right because he is

following his diet 100% and he is still having seizures. I started noticing

him developing new food allergies to things he previosly could eat and now he

can't. I know there has got to be something wrong here internally and the

more I am reading-the more I think it is gut related.

We are going to have him tested for a battery of allergies etc in a couple

weeks. Do you have any recommendations as to what he should be tested for?

What allergies did you notice first? What kind of doctor discovered this

diagnoses?

Anything that you think would be helpful for me to read please let me know.

THanks a bunch

Hi

Not sure if I would say we have things under control but we do seem

to aleast have a better understanding of what we are dealing with.>

No Mike never got bumps on his stomach but he does have ongoing

problems with yeast growth on his chest and back- sort of looks like

white rings- responds really well to lamisil and is definately yeast.

Is this related to his gut- well a this point I am relatively certain

that he does not have yeast overgrowth as he has been on a yeast free

and low sugar and no fruit diet for three years now. For him this is

related to immune disorder but overall results are same as yeast

overgrowth.>

>Alot of the issues our kids face are definately gut related.

Unfortunately I think it is often much more complicated than

allergies. Why do allergies happen- well leaky gut. There are

different types of allergies- IgE mediated, IgG mediated.

Unfortunately only IgE mediated ones show up with traditional allergy

testing- that is why often docs test and say no allergies exist- many

of our kids allergies are IgG mediated and these do not show up on

testinmg such as RAST, or skin prick tests- you need to do

elimination/provocation testing. You can do this yourself - look up

this term and you will get loads of info. Mike showed negative on all

allergy tests but there is no doubt that he cannot tolerate alot of

foods or environmental items.

>

> Re: Where to start- look at the things your child loves to eat-

things he really craves and seems to want constantly- these things

are probably what he is most sensitive to- these foods cause an

addictive response- like a drug- and the body craves them. Eliminate

these for a time then reintroduce them - if allergy exists- you will

see a definate response. Good books " Is this your child " by Doris

Rapp, Food allergies by Dr Braly. UNfortunately for us- first

food allergies we found was Dairy- I couldn't handle Keto without

dairy so this is why we eventually stopped it. Other big problems for

Mike - corn, soy and gluten. All these foods have a similar protein

structure and oddly enough this structure is also similar to

excitatory neurotransmitters- may explain why we see seizures when

exposure happens.

> Mike is followed by a number of specialists- neuro,

gastroenterologist, immunologist, infectious disease specialist- who

made the dx- well the whole team I guess- but for us gastro was most

helpful at getting the others to look at things in a new way. You

know - to look beyond seizures and actually look for a cause. In my

mind a seizure is a symptom, not the problem. look for the problem

and you may be able to stop the symptoms.

> Sorry this is so long winded- this is a very complex topic. It is

also hard to get at root causes as there are so many variables- if

looking at food- BEWARE-different brands, cross contamination, hidden

ingredients etc can really screw you up.

You should really look into rotation diets. This is hard- but really

a walk in the park compared to keto- but may be a way to reduce the

chance of development of new allergies.

Hope this helps- write if you need more info.
