Guest guest
Hi everyone. I have a question for all of you out there. What do you eat on a daily basis? Do you eat meats, onions/peppers, etc.? I've read that some eat chicken & fish (& was surprised the debs attempted fish & chips--isn't this fried?). I'm not criticizing or anything. It's just that I do NOT eat meats, fish, etc. I live strictly on carbs with some proteins mixed in (cottage cheese, cheese, etc.). I'm beginning to realize that this diet is probably going to cause problems for me as the years go by. But, honestly, I get pain & nausea often with just these items. For example, I had a simple garden salad (no onions or cukes) & a baked potato with a little cheese & sour cream on it. I had to take 4 vicodan before I had any relief. I don't know why this will upset my pancreas one day & not the other. There seems to be no rhyme nor reason. I do know that if I eat anything spicy or gaseous, I'm burping & in pain. So, what do the rest of you eat? Also, I have one other thing that happens to me that I haven't seen anybody else write about. I almost always have a great deal of pain when I lay flat to sleep at night. Often I'll have to sit up and burp & burp & burp. . . you get the picture. This can last 5-15 minutes at a time. I don't eat anything after dinner except for an occasional cup of hot tea. I'll take gas-x or something of that nature & sometimes it helps. Usually, just getting rid of all that gas will help ease some of the pain. So, does anybody else have such an experience? Do you eat meats, I usually stick to carbs because they cause me the least amount of pain and diarrhea, red meat kills me now, so I don't touch that anymore, chicken is ok, usually alright with that, but spicy foods are a no-no too for me I get nasty acid reflux if I eat spices. I eat alot of cereal too, especailly if I'm nauseas, it seems to help for some reason. Latley though everything I eat goes through me immediatly, and it's all watery diarrhea, bright yellow like crayola crayon color, so if I want to go out of the house, I need to swig on immodium, it's really frusterating, and sometimes I STILL get diarrhea, even with immodium, so needless to say, I haven't been eating a whole lot and am losing weight again:-{ :-} __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, I can only tell you what does and does not work for me. LOW FAT ,LOW FAT , and LOW FAT !!!!!!! Red meat tears me up and causes me severe pain to the point where I have landed in the ER. Lettuce is a no no and ANY salad dressing is just as bad.Chololate does not work either. Milk shakes, ice cream, cakes ,cookies etc, all no no's. No butter, no sour cream only if it is low fat and just a smidge so to speak.. Coffee, tea, soft drinks all no no's.Orange juice bad news, too much acid. Milk only occasionally Now what does agree with me is broiled or baked chicken, no skin, and only about ten bites worth. Turkey the same way. I am not a fish eater but am trying some varieties out. Bread low fat in moderation is OK but just sliced bread. Rolls at the resturants are ok sometimes most times they are a killer. Baked potatoes plain, mashed potatoes, plain, speggeti, plain, macarroni, plain, occasional scrambled eggs OK. Bagels are very friendly with light cream cheese. Soy products like soy chips and soy beans ( like green beans from the health food store do well). Most veggies like carrots and green beans cooked are good. If you have a sweet tooth, try dried apricots ( good for the bowels ) or dried pinapple. Pineappple juice and papaya juice ( check the labels, I get mine form the health food store Knudson brand ) are good for digestion and are good to drink when you are tired of water. Green tea is supose to be theraputic but I have not tried it yet.Fig Newtons low fat aren't bad and even the regulars aren't bad but I can only eat 2 every day or so providing I don't eat anything much else with allot of fat in it. Most cookies are loaded with fat but the fig newtons aren't real bad. Eggs are sometimes hard to digest so be careful. Pita bread is good, you can find the low fat kind at Krogers as well as flour tortia (SP)wraps. I can get real creative with the tortia wraps ! Use cream cheese instead of manonayoise (SP) and also if you have to use sometype of manoynaise, I think Miracle whip is made with soy instead of the real fattening ingriedients. Most of my diet is low low fat and higher in carbs. Protein is hard to digest so limit that intake. Papaya juice can calm the tummy as well. Rice has been user friendly for me but other say to saty away from white rice and do brown rice. Some say stay away from rice period but it is no problem for me. Angel food cake is also low fat and is good for a sweet tooth. Needless to say, don't do fried foods, and if you over endulge in something be sure to take a digestive enzyme. This is just what works for me. Everyone is different and everyone has different levels of damage to their pancreas and different pain levels. I am not a diabetic so that is why some of the stuff that I eat is OK with me but if you are diabetic, that poses a new set of restrictions. I hope this info helps you. I know that if I eat anything off of my list, I pay for it and that is just not worht it. I have daily pain as it is and any extra pain added to that can be a real inconvience. It can cause me not to be able to work or function for the day so I try to becareful. My pain usually manifest itself in the chest vs back or shoulder pain but I have expierenced all three. No fun. I think if you look back on th epsots before Christmeas time that some of the folks om this board posted some recipes that were usuer friendly to them. And also Thanks GOD for Lean Cuisine or I would really be in sad shape! Lily Re: foods people eat > Hi everyone. I have a question for all of you out there. What do you > eat on a daily basis? Guest guest
, Are you taking digestive enzymes ? I had your same problem before I started taking them. The yellow color is from the bile. Normal sometimes and normal after gallbladder surgery. But it would be better if your poop was more brown in color. The digestive enzymes are a thought as they help break down the food , help your body absorb nutrients better as well as make your bowel movements more consistent. It stopped my diarrhea. Guest guest
Hey Cheryl, It's funny, but I have a recipe for baked beans that I can eat without a problem. In fact, I'm cooking some right now. I start with dried Great Northern beans and take it from there. It's crazy, but my attacks seems unrelated to what I eat. Go figure! Jerry ********************** Re: foods people eat > Hi everyone. I'm so sick of spending my days in the bathroom, and the diarrhea comes on so strong that if I don't get to the toilet, I swear I'll have an accident! I'm going back in a few weeks to my doc. and I'll definitly mention the increase in diarrhea, and how it's all yellow water now. Guest guest
Cheryl, I haven't slept flat in years. I have my bed full of pillow and I sleep on my side in a reclining position. So I haven't even thought about mentioning it. It hurts my pancreas to lie flat too. In fact, when I'm having an acute attack, I can't even lie down on my side. I have to sit up crosslegged with my elbows on my knees. Only after the pain meds hit can I lay down at all. I usually have gas of the other end, not burping. Not much fun to be around when that happens. Kimber -- Kimber hominid2@...
