Don't quote me on this, but I think the fee is $225 or 250 for clinic. But, you don't have to pay that up front -- I think they try to get your insurance to pay it first. But you do have to sign something saying you will pay it if your insurance does not. Clinic was a trip! I loved it and learned so much. Plan on being there for about 4-6 hours. Also, try to go to the morning session at 9:00 rather than the 1:00 session. I think 9:00 starts off more organized and as the day progresses things get more chaotic (but a " good " chaotic). I really enjoyed Dr. R's almost 2-hour question and answer session with the group. I also enjoyed meeting other pre-ops and post-ops -- like Sue from Maine, Anne with her hilarious mother, the lawyer, Paige from North Dakota, and nne from ? (don't remember). I hope ya'll are doing great! You recent post-ops check in with us and let us know how things are going. Anyway, I hope this helps! Clinic just reaffirmed for me (and convinced my boyfriend who went with me) that this is the right decision for me. After receiving hundreds of responses we are going to officially (I am the official) drop the requirement for the Psych evaluation and decrease the clinic requirement to 1, although more are recommended. " I believe the clinic costs around $250.00, but I understand that if you get a referral from your PCP, your insurance may cover the cost so you'd pay just your co-pay. Hope this helps! Don't call on Mondays, as they are VERY busy for her, and Thursday is her day off. If Debbie is not available, I think you can still make your appointment through the front desk. And, if you are able to (proximity wise) I think doing clinic earlier is a good thing because you learn a lot, can meet contacts, and you get a lot of questions answered. Is Duke Towers a safe place. IM not sure maybe I should bring a nanny? My son watches at home I just don't know if it is safe for them to be in a hotel room. They are both really good children. hmmm. Could I go to one Clinic and my husband go to the other session? Does anybody know. this is so hard to set this up out of town. Maybe I should bring my Mom or a friend and leave the Hubby and kids at home. Is it better to rent a car or take a cab? How far from the hotel is it to the hospital? Is anyone trying for June 5th? I went for my second visit last Saturday and Debbie told me my second visit was not necessary. I made my first visit with Dr. Rutledge when I was just considering surgery. Guest guest Posted April 19, 2000 Report Share Posted April 19, 2000 Trish, Yes people bring their children, if they want to. We stayed a Duke Towers, and we were very comfortable. I felt very safe. There was always someone around working, on the pool, lawn, flowers. You are maybe 5-10 minutes from Dr.R and the hospital. As for the clinic, you could both go to one, and if you felt better take your children with you. It is back in a very quite, beautiful spot. There is a building with a beautiful pond. There were children at our clinic on 4/8. No big thing. I was impressed how pretty it was back by the office, I even commented it to Dr. R. As far as I know, you can take as many people with you as you want. I only took my boyfriend, but some had their whole family -- meaning, a husband and two kids. Now, just my two cents about bringing kids to the clinic -- I wouldn't do it unless they are too young to know what's going on (toddler) or they are old enough to have a GOOD understanding about what is going on (teen). While I was at the clinic last week -- I saw some children in the age ranges of 6-9 and I could see where the experience may have scared them. You will watch an EXPLICIT video of the surgery -- blood, guts, and all. But, not only that-- Dr. R is very open and honest about risks, etc and I think hearing that could be frightening for a young child. For example, last week Dr. R announced to the clinic about 's death (she had passed away just the night before) -- naturally, a lot of people became upset and wanted to know what happened. I thought witnessing this whole scene would be disturbing to a child -- particularly a child who's mother (or father) was going to have the surgery. So, IMHO, I would hire a babysitter. Have a great time at clinic. Like I said, it is a hoot and you will meet all kinds of people. They went outside, sat inside, and were no problem at all. Now that might have been different if I had brought my 2 boys, 14&12!!!!!!!!!!!! I do think it is wonderful of Dr. R, he is just really soooo pleasant to everyone!!! I really enjoyed my clinic. Tonni 4/10 Claires littermate!!!
