Guest guest
We used the MediSense blood monitor. It tests blood glucose and ketones. We were given a prescription for it b/c some insurance companies cover it with a prescription. Ours would not. It is available over the counter as well. I do not remember the machine being that expensive. The glucose test strips are also reasonable. The ketone test strips are very expensive. , mom to Langan, 2 yrs old and keto kid 11/03 to 9/7/04; weaned due to severe metabolic acidosis but keto kid at heart forever > For those of you who test ketones w/ blood, what type of machine do you use and did you need a Rx for it? I only use the urine sticks for Hannah but I would also like to use the blood testing to use if there is a diffrence. > Thanks, > > >
Guest guest
We ordered the Precision Xtra monitor with the beta ketone sticks from zooscape.com. Much cheaper than Pharmacy. They work great for us, when we have a test day. We don't do it everyday, but when we are trying to track what exactly his ketones do in a given day, they are great because you can do it immediately and don't have to wait for a wet diaper. We usually monitor a little before a meal and a 1/2 hour after a meal to see what that meal is doing to . We are still trying to get his ketones to stay high all day not just at night.
