Mackenzie has had a base cough all winter (where she never had one before) but her lungs are always clear. We think it may be allergy related and I would like to get her tested for allergies so I will know for sure. Have any of your kids ever done this? What is involved? How old do they need to be? Guest guest Posted March 25, 2002 Report Share Posted March 25, 2002 My son Ashton (just now a year old) had an allergy test done. It usually starts with a blood test called a RAST test. It tests for about 20 things such as peanuts, pet dander, ragweed, milk, eggs, etc. The second step is usually a skin test where they slightly scratch the skin (I had this done as a child and it does hurt a bit but it was a cool show and tell). Into the scratched area, they put a tester of the item they want to test for. They look to see if there is a reaction.
