I just looked at the cream we changed to and it has polysorbate 80 in it and

we have seen a dramatic increase in seizures. This could be something. Its

in the trash now.

Thanks for pointing that out

Hi- I am putting my $.02 in here with the cream issue. We have never had

problems with the cream and seizures, but at the beginning of the diet Noah's

ketones were lower and we couldn't figure out why, then another friend that is

on the diet pointed out that our cream wasn't the only ingredient- it contained

polysorbate 80 and some artificial ingredients. (polysorbate 80 is a no-no

according to the dieticians.) I had only been concerned with finding 36% cream

and hadn't took time to read more about it! I switched to a different cream that

the only ingredient was heavy whipping cream, and his ketones were better.

Anyway- maybe this applies to some of you!

Mom to Noah- age 3, med free, & seizure-free on the keto diet.

Bill,

Lately, the only thing we could think of was that about the same time we saw

an increase in seizures was the time we changed creams. We have used

thesame brand for years and have been fine. All of the sudden, these seizures

started happening daily and we thought it might be the probiotics or the cream.

We stopped the probiotics and the seizures have slowed down but not

completely. Now, I'm going back to the old cream. All of this has happened

since the

constipation issues in July. We just can't get him back on track. Its

sooooooooo frustrating. You would think after 3 years on this diet, the fine

tuning would be over. Not so.

Thanks for your help

Hi

I checked heavy cream we are using and there is polisorbate 80 there

too.I am afraid it is the only heavy cream available here( i've

never seen other brands).Do you think polisorbat 80 can significant

affect seizure control?Have you seen big improvement after you

switched creams?

We had to go to a different grocery store to get our cream. We were getting it

at Super Walmart & the Walmart and Dean's brand there has polysorbate 80. There

is a differerent Dean's brand (in the purple carton) that is only heavy whipping

cream, and we can get that at a different grocery store. If you have an organic

section, organic cream works, too, it is just much more pricey usually.

We were told that polysorbate 80 is not allowed, and may have to be factored

into the meal plan if you use it. We did notice that his ketones improved after

the cream switch, so it would definitely be worth looking into.

I agree. There are additives that may be throwing off the calculations.
