Guest guest
Leigh- you gotta hang in there. Colds can definitely throw you while on the diet- if at all possible it would be best to never let them get sick- but how realistic is that? So, what you might find out is that you should get them into the pediatrician right away and/or have a plan of action that your dietician and neuro approves with keto-friendly medications, etc. Ear infections are big culprits we are finding out with seizures, and my son Noah would be 8 months seizure-free since starting the diet, but last week he had a grand mal seizure due to an ear infection. THAT STINKS! We also know that there is no way the diet could be compromised- it has to be from infection. But, he is fine now and that was an isolated incident we hope! Some may say that there can be a honeymoon period with the diet, too, and some of that can come down to meds and finetuning the diet. But, when you have a cold mixed in, I would chalk it up to that first. Just stay on top of it and be positive. Imagine my disappointment after almost 8 months seizure-free since starting the diet and then BAM last week, but you pick up and keep on going like the trooper you are! You are still in just the beginning stages, too. So, good job so far! Mom to Noah- age 3, med-free, & seizure-free on keto jacksondoodle2002 dljweikert@...> wrote: Hi all! We are in our third week of the diet. We are seeing inconsistent results nearly daily so far! We did have a good run of sz count cut in half, then Jack got a cold. The cold has improved, but it has leveled off and he is not " well " . Still sneezing, coughing, and stuffy. We are taking him to the pedi. tomorrow. I know we've talked about illness affecting the diet, but can a persistent cold do the same? I guess I just need some encouragement. Realistically, I KNOW it is SOOOOO early in this marathon and that I can't let myself be discouraged so soon. I've been reading the posts and I know a lot of you didn't have real improvement for months. Does the fact that he was improving daily until the cold struck bode well for us typically? I think I remember reading that there is no " honeymoon " period on the diet, so logically it seems that once the cold is resolved we could see some improvement. We have done no " tweaking " with the dietician yet and we did come thru Hopkins, so I know we are in excellent hands to say the least! Sorry for the ramble, but if this is how I am writing - imagine what is going on in my head right now! ha ha! Thanks for anything you have to share. I can't tell you how grateful I am just to have a safe place to rant a bit. leigh " The Ketogenic Diet....a realistic treatment option, NOT just a last resort!
