I have heard a lot of bad things about the Atkins and ketosis too. I guess I was lucky in that I didn't have any bad reactions but then I didn't do the diet for very long. I was concerned about the cholesterol aspect. It didn't seem to make a lot of sense that you could eat as many eggs and as much cheese as you wanted without it effecting your lipid numbers. As it turned out it didn't raise my cholesterol very much but it did go up somewhat. Atkins isn't recommended for anyone with diabetes especially if you are insulin dependent.

I'm not a Dr. Phil fan so I don't know anything about what his diet is about.

Thanks for your input a, appreciate it......and congrats on becoming a moderator!

Hugs...

Re: Lupus and Atkins Diet

Hi girls: I would like to be frank her in saying I think that you are right that the Atkins is not the way to go. In my personal experience with it I did lose 18 lbs, but I got a lot of leg cramps, I had to take a lot of supplements, and it set off flares. I found out later from a nutrition class just how dangerous that particular diet can be, as far as the depletion of the electrolytes to the brain and other things. I have been on different diets all my life. I am currently reading dr phils plan and don't follow it exactly, but for the most part. I do a lot of exercise too, and drinking lots of water is important. I have only lost 5 lbs this semester, but I have not been sticking real well to my diet. Too much eating junk food. I am going to try to get back on the wagon with Dr Phil. Hang in there hon, it can be done. We can suport each other if you would like. Love, hugs, and prayers, a"
