It almost sounds as if you have a Chiari 2 malformation (Arnold Chiari Malformation) because the brainstem is not usually herniated in Chiari 1, that's in the clinical definition of a Chiari 2 malformation, though. As far as the no definite signs of Syringomyelia, I would have to guess that that meant no syrinx, but perhaps they saw some signs of CSF blockage. I don't totally understand what is meant by that, but I would have to guess that you don't have a syrinx by that. I would, however, ask the radiologist what he/she meant. A posterior fossa decompression means to take a small piece of the back of the base of your skull out, to decompress the cerebellum and brainstem. Also, they intend to do a laminectomy of the C1 and C2, which are the top two vertebras. A laminectomy means that they remove the lamina (the roof of the vertebra). A duraplasty is when they open the dura (the lining surrounding your brain) to make more room for your cerebellar tonsils and then patch it with either your own tissue, cadaver or bovine pericardium (the tissue surrounding the heart). I have a few issuse 1 I been loosing my short term memory probley last 6 months also I been noticing I shake a little my G/F Kasandra see's the same thing and the memory thing is very noticable, is this related to the Lupus? and does anyone have this? I have been good until recently, nowadays my hubby says I should have a label with my name and address on it in case I forget where I live or who I am. I forget absolutely everything. It's now worse than ever and I keep telling myself it's not because of lupus but due to the way of life and so many things to think about. The shaking was awful on high steroids. I couldn't hold the phone receiver to my ear, my hand would shake very bad. I was on 40 mg prednisone for 6 months, the shaking definitely subsided with lower doses of prednisone and then disappeared when I stopped taking it altogether. Speak with your doctor about it. I'm sorry I can't recall (brain fog), I do believe you said your doctor started you on a steroid regiment. That might be the cause of tremors. Good luck. I read on www.lupus.org that there is lack of concentration with some folks with lupus.
