Guest guest
Mine only goes to 6.0 as well Stefanie, and although I haven't really monitored blood ketones v closely this yr, there hasn't been any time has needed any higher than that recently as far as the readings on the kit go. When he got into trouble last year, it was only once we were in hospital with the regular lab tests available there that we realised just how high he was going. I have the Medisense Optium dual ketone/glucose kit, there may be another brand that measures above 6.0, but as far as I know, the Medisense one is the only one available here in NZ. However - when you say the 7.5 range for previous readings, assuming they were lab tests, were they vein or capillary (fingerprick) checks? Because the home kits test via fingerprick, they are always capillary readings, so therefore 'watered down' by plasma etc. Meaning that a fingerprick level of 6.0 would actually equate roughly to a vein equivalent of 7.8. (30% has to be added on) So if you look at it that way, the home kits do actually go up to that level when comparing to a vein reading. Either way, I know 7.5 would be way too high for , he is not one who could cope with that sort of level of ketosis - mebbe now and then, but certainly not on a regular basis. How are his glucose readings in the early hrs of the morn? Testing if possible before his usual 'seizure time' will give you a more accurate idication, as the actual act of having the seizure can throw out the readings. ----- Original Message ----- From: Stefanie Hi In regards to the blood monitors you have heard that people are using,I can't find one that goes up higher than 6.0 for Ketones. Sometimes my son, who is on a 4.25:1, ratio is in the 7.5 range. I worry that Ketones are too high (or too Low)and would like to have more control of monitoring them more closely. The urine sticks just aren't enough information for me especially because A.M. urine is diluted and most of his t/c's are in the early A.M. hours. We've been on the diet since 2002 and are slipping in our control over things. What monitors do you suggest?
