Guest guest
Dear Rose Thanks for your response. Like Bill on this list says, " It is more art than science " and whatever works, works. I did get the suggestion of fruit and what it does is it takes up the carbs, which is my next alternative (there are no others that I know, except another ratio drop). produces ketones like crazy, and it looks like you are going to be in the same situation. It is great, as she is able to be on a lower ratio, which looks a lot more like normal eating... not quite, but a bit more like it. The problem may have come because I noticed my planner allows more carbs than does the dietitian. So, of course, I went with her advice. MISTAKE. I am going back to higher carbs, of which fruit is one, like your friend did. Yes, apple juice is just not something I want to do all the time. I have lowered her ratio, too. She is at 2:1 and still producing ketones like crazy. I had thought the meal planner added carbs because it was usually a weaning ratio, but whatever the reason, she may do better on it with more carbs, which is basically what your friend did on her own by adding fruit. Others keep going up to get high ketones. We keep going down. It seems crazy. Once your son is med free it will be a whole different ball game for you. If he produces high ones now, you may end up with lowering and lowering the ratio like we have had to do for my daughter. I will be interested in knowing, so be sure to post! Thanks... . celvellyn roseanne.toms@...> wrote: Hello Did you get my message about giving the fruit as a corrective measure? I do not know if this is a dietician-approved thing. This is from a mum whose daughter is seizure free and in every other way apparently a healthy child. She produces ketones like there is no tomorrow and this seems to be the answer for them. We're UK and I have a feeling that might be too random for you US people! I think it works if the child is not too hypersensitive. I wouldn't want to keep giving fruit juice because it's too drastic. I think when we settle down post-drug-wean we will end up having to do something similar ourselves because we also produce ketones very easily.
