Guest guest
Is she exactly 5 yrs old ? How many mths - and what is her height? 35 lbs is approx 16 kilos, so at the lower cal range (if her activity level is low/average) for that age group (65-68 cals per kg), that would put her on about 1040 (16 x 65) calories, so yes, the 1200 does sound high, but it also depends what they consider her 'ideal' weight to be, (caluclated by dietician usually by looking at height/weight ratio and pre-diet growth charts). Are they using 1.1 gm per kg for protein? If she is chubbyish, it doesn't sound like she needs to gain weight at all, so I'm not sure why her cal level would be set this high? Even if she did need to gain weight/growth, Freeman recommends setting cals to current weight and then slowly increasing them up, otherwise there are too many cals on board to be 'mimicing starvation' during the catch up phase, so less likelihood of seizure control. I had to do a mass delete of a lot of older posts, so I'm not sure if I've already asked you the height questions etc before, sorry if so, my inbox had got into a bit of a state I have saved some that I am still getting around to answering, but a lot have been deleted already, including those in my sent items. PS - the 75% calorie levels for keto kids has already been accounted for in the caluclations per kg that the table in Freeman's book sets out. So the 65-68 cals per kg for 4-6 yr olds already has that 25% deducted. ----- Original Message ----- > Dear > > Recently you gave some guidelines for weight and calories. Her ratio is now 3.5 : 1 after going acid because ketones were consisently far too high which I hadn't realized until crisis time. Anyway, she also gets 1200 calories, which I am thinking is high. She is short, small framed, and is not extremely active. She was delayed in all areas, even physically, and although she is able to walk and run, she is a quiet player... books, legos, making " cookies " at her sand table, those kind of activities. I know metabolism, activity level, etc. works into play, but I am thinking that I read she should be getting 75% of her normal calorie intake, and I think this 1200 calorie diet is high. > > What are your thoughts??? Many thanks ahead of time. , mum to dear who is just bouncing back after one bad week (worse than pre-diet!)
