Guest guest
Hi my son Caden, has gotten very aggresive latley, he has starting biting people at school, he has never been this way before, since the diet has started he is very fussy and whine,s all the time. H as anybody else seen this change with ther child, the doctor said he has not seen this before nor the dietician, thet did lower his ratio from 4:o1 to 3:01 to see if this will help and he just started carnator, i thought they were supposed to feel better on the diet after awhile, but we are not getting that.Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Caden,s mom Viola. Keto kid since September 2004, on Depakote - Clonapen
Guest guest
Is Klonopin new to him? Could it be med related vs. diet related? Guest guest
Viola, I don't know what Clonapen is. Is it a trade name for Depakote? It is unusual for the diet to cause this type of behaviour. On the other hand it is very common for the meds to cause it. Try to wean off the meds before changing anything on the diet. Have you seen any change with seizures since starting the diet? Guest guest
I agree that it may possibly be the klonipin, as when was on a benzodiazepine (which klonipin is, also known as clonazepam) in conjunction with depakote and the diet, the med side effects were enhanced bigtime. I'm not sure if Caden usually has any sort of behavioural problems previously with klonipin, but I know did, and was one of the reasons he was taken off it very soon after starting it. My other son was a baby at the time he was put on it, and I actually used to literally fear for his life sometimes - was so aggressive with him it was unbelievable - which was TOTALLY out of character. The aggressiveness etc resolved when it was switched for another med. He wasn't on keto at that stage, but I am picking if he was on it, he poss would have been even worse. Ketosis in our experience def increases AED side effects, and actually even depakote changes behaviourally (nothing like the klonipin did tho) so these 2 meds together in conjunction with ketosis could be the reason for the behaviour changes you are seeing. Meds aside though, having v high ketone levels can also lead to 'irritable' behaviour, which is prob why your dietician has tried lowering the ratio to see if it resolves. Not sure I would have gone that far down ratio wise all in one go though, were you seeing ketones going too high on the 4:1 level? ----- Original Message ----- From: vihairaffair2000 Hi my son Caden, has gotten very aggresive latley, he has starting biting people at school, he has never been this way before, since the diet has started he is very fussy and whine,s all the time. Guest guest
We just started the diet - my little guy is more calm on the diet than before. My Zaki was very aggressive on the Klonopin as well - reason for us to discontinue this particular drug. Re: Aggresive behavior-Keto diet My daughter was not aggresive on the diet. But, I noticed your son is on klonopin, and when a was on that, OH BOY!!!!! She was TERRIBLE. How long has he been on it? That might be the culprit. Guest guest
If I remeber correctly, you are in the process of weaning Caden's meds. If so, the withdrawal from meds could be causing the aggressive behavior. My son's behavior was atrocious as we weaned, not aggressive, but very out-of-sorts (crying and feeling feeling emotionally fried for days on end.) Hang in there. Chances are that things will improve and you will be very glad you stuck it out. I wanted to give up many times in the first 4 months, but stuck with it. I'm so glad I did, because we have him back now (after 3 long years of seizures and bad meds.) It can be extrememly tough the first several months. > > Hi my son Caden, has gotten very aggresive latley, he has starting > biting people at school, he has never been this way before, since > the diet has started he is very fussy and whine,s all the time.
