Guest guest
, My daughter is 6 months old and we are still fine tuning...she is spilling no ketones at all! Hannah is on Phenobarbital and Keppra. She still has the myoclonics, but less often. I was told with the little ones you have to be very careful with the Depekote. Keppra is fairly new but has little side effects and the pill form is easy to crush with no carbs! Is your little one only bottle feeding or is she eating solids as well? Changing meds while on diet? Hi, I am new to the group. My daughter started the ketogenic diet almost four weeks ago, and we are still having some trouble stabilizing her ketones and controlling her seizures. She has infantile spasms, and was having about 5- 6 cluster seizures a day and now she's down to 1-3 a day. The problem is, the seizures she does have are lasting much longer, and seeming to take more out of her. She's also on Depakote and Phenobarbital, and they don't seem to be doing much for her anymore. I was wondering if anyone has switched to a different seizure med, while still fine tuning the diet. The idea would be to aim for better seizure control now, and if/when Daphne becomes seizure free, try to wean her off. One of my big goals in starting the diet was to get her off the meds; however seizure control is always the first goal, since the seizures cause her development to regress. I also want to make sure I give the diet a fair shot... and might feel better about leaving her on it longer if I wasn't so worried about these seizures. Any advice/ experience? Thanks so much! I've read a few posts previously that suggest that seizures may actually worsten when a child is on Depakote on the diet, as the change in metabolism linked with the diet makes the drug more potent and can exacerbate seizures. I'm no medic, but this may be worth looking into. HTH Gail Mum to 5 LGS, MCT keto kid since Nov
