Guest guest
Temp can definately cause seizures. No doubt about it. Many time with he would have seizures for unknown reason and then the next day he would be sick with a virus like a cancer sore. Any little abnormal infection, fever virus etc can cause them. Poor kids! Lots of luck
Guest guest
Hi Kaz This story is very familiar to me.ph's first seizures were thought to be " febrile " as he only fitted with fever in early days of his epilepsy. He has been admitted to hospital 100s times with fever and seizures and no known cause for fevers.Later when I joined SMEI group I found out it is quite common among kids with SMEI.I think maybe we notice fever because of seizures because in our case fever does not have to be very high to bring on a seizure. On the other hand it is quite common for SMEI kids to have 'febrile' seizures during first year of life.Usually such young kids do not have friequent fevers ,so I think fever ( in our case) is a part of seizure disorder what means that body " thermostat " (which is hypothalamus (sp) I believe) does not work properly.Seizure can raise body temperature but we have never seen high fever because of seizure, just a bit elevated. In our case fever always comes first( for no known reason). So body thermostat is something to think about.it gets better than kids grow older Natasha, mom to 2 years old ph,suspected SMEI/Dravet's syndrome, keto kid simc August 23d 2004 > > > Just wanted to say thanks to , and Lloyd, Bill Barber > and Koch for completing the survey today. > > Much appreciated xxxx > > Had a very bad night with our son Jermaine last night. > He got an extremley high temperature and of course started having > siezures continuosously. > They came in the form of constant twitching and just being completley > not with it or aware. > > My question is with Jermaine i know that siezures can bring his > temperature up, so we do not know if he is fitting due to the temp or > the temp is due to the fitting although he has never had a temp quite > as high as last night before. > We have though had many occasions where his temp rises very high, hes > fitting and once he stops it returns to normal with no other illness > or infection the cause...... > > Do others experience this? > > I do not know how long J was having siezures last night before we > came down as they were not noisy like he usually is but today hehas > been fine with no signs of any illness etc..... > > Any feedback much appreciated. > > Kaz > xxx
Guest guest
As far as i know, when our kids have fever, it lowers the threshold for seizures. My son has history of IS but doesnt have it now. However, whenever he gets a temperature we get very bad seizures that lasts for more than an hour. " kazmum2boys " ketogenic aol.com> cc: Subject: Thank you ,very bad 15/10/2004 night and a question. 04:41 AM Please respond to ketogenic Just wanted to say thanks to , and Lloyd, Bill Barber and Koch for completing the survey today. Much appreciated xxxx Had a very bad night with our son Jermaine last night. He got an extremley high temperature and of course started having siezures continuosously. They came in the form of constant twitching and just being completley not with it or aware. My question is with Jermaine i know that siezures can bring his temperature up, so we do not know if he is fitting due to the temp or the temp is due to the fitting although he has never had a temp quite as high as last night before. We have though had many occasions where his temp rises very high, hes fitting and once he stops it returns to normal with no other illness or infection the cause...... Do others experience this? I do not know how long J was having siezures last night before we came down as they were not noisy like he usually is but today hehas been fine with no signs of any illness etc..... Any feedback much appreciated. Kaz xxx " The Ketogenic Diet....a realistic treatment option, NOT just a last resort! " List is for parent to parent support only. Guest guest
-Hi All. Thanks forthe responses. Jermaine has had never sickness or diarrhoea. Maybe i should give him more fluids and see if that helps. Temp is definatley a trigger for his siezures but when this is a common occurence i am sure that the siezures bring on the temp. It is not a slight temp though it can be very high. He is back to school today as hes back to himself. Kaz xxx
