Guest guest
I had some like that one time, they had a glucose tester on the strip in addition to the ketone tester. The ketone tester either turns pinkish/purplish or stays beige, I don't remember what the glucose strip did. They probably still sell them, you might find a bottle in a pharmacy and check the chart on the side. Sydne > Maybe someone can tell me something about these ketosis stix. Guest guest
Jeanie, you said they were given to you in a ziploc bag years ago? If that is the case, I would not test their correctness whatsoever. They don't have a huge shelf-life, especially when they're removed from their original container and the dessicant inside. I know ketostix aren't the cheapest thing but if you're really interested, I would go buy new ones. At least then you'd be safer relying on the result. Guest guest
Jeanie, You might want to leave those alone. They are defintely out of date and their accuracy is a question itself. I have only used the ketostix at one time, when I first started Atkins, and I am thinking of buying more. I am currently looking on the web to find the best deal. I will share with you what I find if your intrested in new stix. Keisha -- In Atkins_Support_List@y..., " Jeanie Lynn " wrote: > Maybe someone can tell me something about these ketosis stix. Guest guest
How important is it for me to check with ketosis stix? I'm afraid if I find I'm not in ketosis I will get discouraged. On the other hand, if I know when I am & when I ain't, I can figure out what put me out, right? Jeanie Jeanie, you said they were given to you in a ziploc bag years ago? Guest guest
Well Jeanie, I just ordered two 100 count bottles and the shipping was only 3.80. So I got 200 strips plus shipping for 16.20. You can't beat that!!!!!!!!!! Keisha > I hadn't even thought of Wally World! I'll have to check next time I'm there. Which will probably be soon. Guest guest
Jeanie, Ketosis stix are totally optional. I have never used them and I lost 55 pounds with no problem. It might make sense now that I am struggling to buy them and use them, but I know what I eat that knocks me out, so why pay money to prove it? Guest guest
Jeanie, I got them from the place that Sue and Vered mentioned. Its called www.LabEssentials.com. The actual sticks were 6.20 for a hundred count bottle and for two bottles the shipping was still only 3.80. I don't need 200 sticks but I am sharing with someone. So we are both only paying 8.10 a bottle and are done with it and we got 100 sticks apiece. Can't beat that! I have lost the majority of my weight without Ketostix but its just something I want to do occasionally to make sure I am still in Ketosis. Those 100 will last me a great while. Guest guest
Those would be keto-diastix [more expensive than ketostix, test for ketones and glucose; ketones on tan pad]. As someone said, since they are old and improperly stored, readings will be weak [at best] or totally inaccurate. Shelf life on ketostix in original container is 6 months after opening, as they are very moisture sensitive [humidity]. HJ ----- Original Message ----- Maybe someone can tell me something about these ketosis stix. I have some given to me years ago by a friend who is a nurse. They have a pale green square at the tip & another light beige square further up. Well, I used one today & the green turned aqua & the beige turned barely, barely, barely pink. Actually the color difference is much more pronounced now that it has dried completely. Does anyone know what this means? What is the difference in these 2 squares. Guest guest
Then they are DEFINITELY not any good. My friend gave me these while we were in Okinawa, Japan. A VERY humid island!! I'm tossing them. Thanks, Jeanie Shelf life on ketostix in original container is 6 months after opening, as they are very moisture sensitive [humidity]. Guest guest
Good point. How can I know I'm in ketosis without them? How can you tell for yourself? Guest guest
Would not the use of the ketosis stix help you work out the quantity of what you eating?? So you can have " them " but not so much and still be in ketosis?? I use the stix twice daily as I dont have scales at home to weigh each day and well, I find the testing helps me one, keep me on track and reconfirm I doing it right, Signing the signs that you are a fat burning machines, reinforces it all!..Also, I now discovering with the stix about portion control and what knocks me out and to what degree. I am not eating anything illegal but even legal food can get thrown me out or get me right down to trace... To me, they are a great additonal to this WOL but I can see a day and time later down the track that I wont feel so insecure and my need will be gone! Guest guest
Jeanie, You can tell if you are in Ketosis if you have a good sense of smell. Your breath will be horrible and you may have a bad taste in your mouth. If you are doing really well on your water, you may notice Ketosis odor when you go to the bathroom instead. Ketosis stinks whether the ketones escape through your breath or your urine. Is ketosis actually an offensive smell to other people? I thought maybe it just smelled fruity, someone told me that..
