Guest guest
Hi I don't know about fluids but I do know that another experienced Mum in the UK has had a problem with high ketones by bedtime and she deals with it by giving a small amount of fruit as a corrective measure, something like once at lunchtime and once late p.m. This is a bit less drastic than fruit juice (which is what I had been doing!) This particular child operates better on wee ketones of between 4 and 8. How much control do you have over what you do with the diet - could you experiment with the fruit or would you have to get " permission " ?! Guest guest
, My also got too ketotic at the end of the day when we first started the diet. She started at 3:1. We discovered quickly that she didn't need really high ketones to control her seizures. She did best with urine ketones around 80 (we didn't do blood ketones at home). 80-160 was o.k. sometimes, but other times she didn't feel well when ketones were at that level. 160 was definitely too high for her. We gave juice, like you, just to see if it helped. It did... so our dietician told us to relax the fluid restrictions that we had been given. We increased fluids slowly and I kept track of the amount she was drinking. She drank small amounts (2-3oz) more often, rather than large drinks at once. Soon we found we could let her drink as much as she wanted. Problem solved. She took a water bottle to school and kept it at her desk. Looking back, I can say it was very helpful for to " form " ketones easily. It has made our diet experience easier. Maybe that's a " " thing!!--LOL I can't remember your 's age or how well the diet is controlling her seizures, but I don't think it would hurt to experiment with increasing fluids. My was 7 when she started the diet. Her initial fluid intake was 36oz. per day. Guest guest
Hi , I know Kristan is much younger than , but Kristan is suppose to have 900-1000 ml of fluid a day. Most of that she gets with her formula. In Dr. Freeman's book it says liquid allotments are set at 60-70cc or an average of 65 cc per kilo of body weight per day. I have an older version of the book, I'm not sure what the up to date one says. But, then I have also read in previous posts that fluids don't need to be restricted, give as much as your child will take. Hope this helps. I hope the seizures are staying away from . Kristan has been doing better these past few days, seizures are coming down. I'm hoping that she may just do well on a lower ratio like and then I will just keep her on it if the seizures keep going down and hopefully stop altogether. She's currently on a 3:1 ratio and we go down at the end of the month to 2.5:1. Satnam, mom to Kristan, 22 months Keto kid since August 2003 and currently weaning from the diet. > > Hi... > > Again, I need some help. > > My daughter is 39lbs...almost 40, on a 900 calorie diet, 2.5:1 ratio > that may need to be lowered. Guest guest
Dear Sorry for the delay in responding. Lily is on an unrestricted fluid amount. She generally gets at least 4 8-10 oz. bottles a day, usually 5 bottles. I wish I could help with the ketone issue - the number relating to ketones is Greek to me. I just test Lily's using the strip and it's either moderate or large. She maintains ketosis pretty easily, has never to my knowledge slipped lower than moderate, and only was in the moderate range a couple of times. The amount of fluid she has only affects how much she pees, not her ketones that I can tell. Of course, with the diet and some of the drugs, more fluid is better, with the kidney stone issue. Hope that's of some help. Caitlin > > Hi... > > Again, I need some help. > > My daughter is 39lbs...almost 40, on a 900 calorie diet, 2.5:1 ratio > that may need to be lowered.
